Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bob, raises too many questions!

Why via Reykjavik?

Why not just check out any of the flight sites e.g. Skyscanner?

More info req’d

If you're asking about Icelandair then book direct or through a booking engine. Sometimes expedia or netflights etc have greater perks on luggage or meals for the same price but remember your contract is then not direct with the airline.

The reason for my question was to avoid heathrow and wondered if it took less time overall. just wondered if anyone had done the flight.
Been to Sun Peaks this year (loved it) just wondering ?

@bhard, check out matrix.itasoftware.com, advanced search allows you to e.g. avoid Heathrow. It’s the engine behind a number of booking sites, and is owned by Google but lets you be quite granular in your searching.

Air Transat - direct. Frequency depends on the time of year. Pretty much 'no frills' but does the job.

We looked at the Iceland option but have not booked that actual trip yet we thought we would do it in summer first. Iron out the problems.
We found that Manchester Heathrow Calgary Kamloops works quite well.
Calgary flight leaves Heathrow earlier in the day and there are more flights to Kamloops from Calgary.
2nd saving grace Calgary flight leaves from terminal 5 so no faffing about to get to 3. So BA tend not to lose the luggage quite so often.
Flight time to Kamloops from both Vancouver and Calgary is the same.

Air Transat does not fly to Vancouver or Calgary from Manchester in the winter. You can go via Toronto but its a long wait in Toronto.

We "drove" from Calgary this year that was a mistake 12hr to get to Sun Peaks from Canmore. 1 stop at Revelstoke for lunch. It snowed ! Logging trucks, avalanche control, packed snow, blowing snow, rocks, the stuff they put on the roads as grit has rocks in it, next year we are flying not driving.

If you are going next year to SP then season pass is great if your there more than 8 days, if you buy it in the cheap season (May) and you pay in 3 installments. Then if you go to Whistler your lift tickets are half price.

We tried going via Seattle once. the 5 hrs to get out of the
Now we leave Manchester and make sure we have at least 3hrs at LHR any less and we are often missing bags.

Thanks @Joneski

went to banff last year man to heathrow to calgary on BA found the wait at manchester and the 3 hours at heathrow a pain.
went to sun peaks this year on train to london stopped over and flew vancouver to kamloops with air canada. Found carrying the skis across london etc a real pain this year especially on way back as the luggage carriage was at the front of train. just looking at alternate methods of getting there for next year.
I guess there is no easy way. It would be good to get on a plane at manchester and arrive in canada.

Thanks for the helpful advice. We really enjoyed are 2 weeks in sp and hope to go back next year.

@bhard, I'm not sure any other airline involving connections is going to be any better?

We flew in to Calgary a few years ago from Geneva via Munich (or Frankfurt?) and had a rather nervous run through the airport as LH had assured us 45 minutes was quite adequate then we arrived 30 minutes late... They did hold the flight, thankfully, and our luggage also made the transfer. I'd rather chill out for an extra hour than be less than relaxed.

@bhard, i make this journey 5 times a year and haven't been able to beat , man-lhr-van with ba , agree it would be nice to have a direct flight from manchester , but for some reason it doesnt happen , used to be able to do an air canada man / toronto flight which worked well but alas no more .
we have settled for the plus of having a nice day out in vancouver on our last day which is always nice

@bhard, You can't do it as there is nothing direct from Iceland out to Vancouver (last time I looked).

We do it most years and it is a huge pain via LHR, especially as BA drop local flights at a drop of a hat if anything slows down Heathrow end. There is also some suggestion that if there are not enough people booked on the flight it disappears and they put you on the next one. We got back ok with only a small delay, but friends 2 days later got bounced for a huge delay. Their flight cancelled 3pm, told not on the 5pm but should have been (cock up from BA end not knowing what was going on) eventually made the 8pm flight.

Only doable option I found was via Amsterdam with a single change - Frankfurt was cheapest but seemed flipping daft heading another 1.5hrs in the wrong direction. We would rather start from Leeds/Bradford too but that is even more fraught as less connections.

Agree with the bag disappearing thing too, every time Daughter comes back at least one bag is missing. Must cost BA a fortune to get them to us next day by taxi. Potty.

Air Transat do run from Manchester direct but only May to October...... grrrr. Zoom used to do it too but went bust.
