A bit against Eurotunnel policy but has anyone bought two seperate day returns and gotten away with it.
I was told that if you book a cheap day return going out from calais and a second cheap day return using two different credit cards you can get a way with it...
Assuming that works what im not clear about is the return leg, if booked outward from calais they will know you havnet made the outward journey and if booked outward from france that will look funny haveing a brit registered car?
I am going over in the summer and it is £103 if i buy two sets of day returns and skip 2 of the four tickets or it is £219 for a proper return...

skimottaret,Thoeoretically it's possible with two credit cards registered to two different addresses and using two different vehicles either hired or registered to those addresses but if you get caught they will charge you the highest fare applicable and of course they could take you to caught for obtaining goods by deception or fraud etc .
The security systems on the Tunnel make it the safest port of entry / exit into the country.

tom00_uk, they do but you cant get the cheap day return fare so you might as well by a normal return rather than two singles.
boredsurfin, do you know anyone who got caught? my source runs service vans to the continent and they recon as long as you have booked using two seperate credit cards and use the auto check in it works....

skimottaret, not done it for a while but if you do it use different credit or debit cards for each booking as thats how they used to track bookings. I thought though that they changed their pricing structure a couple of years ago to and it kind of did away with the need for it.
Had a mate do it with the ferry years ago and they caught him out with the fact he had his cases visable when he went through the checkin on the outward journey. Might not get away with it if you are loaded down.

Gilberts Fridge, a pair of cheap day returns is running about half of a normal return for the couple of trips i am looking at.
As we are driving a car with similar luggage both ways and not loading up on booze etc so cant see that as a problem...

skimottaret, the different cards might work, but presumably they could also track you by registration number? Also, with some forms of transport - air certainly, don't know about rail/sea - failure to take an outbound journey can result in automatic cancellation of the inbound. (When I say air, I mean regular airlines like BA, which are not point-to-point services). Good luck though, that pricing difference is a bit steep

They'll know you haven't 'returned'... as it will show on the booking/manifests. If they a re looking and can be bothered, they can track you anyway they like....reg numbers, name, CC are the most likely.
Old trick and I expect them to be wise to it. I'd be suprised you'd need to do it with Multi-fares prices..!!!

Hmm, We got stopped and questioned several times last summer,when using ferry and eurotunnel, apparently as we were frequent travellers. Dog growling at them didn't help.

I seem to remember that if the return was not used, then they were entitled to charge for a full standard fare...can't remember if it was the ferries or eurotunnel that would do that though..

i guess i was thinking booking a return day trip departing from calais. If you use a different cc how can they know? You dont pre book your reg number and if you rock up to a self service lane and bung in your second card no one is the wiser..

@Justynkasz, P&O used to have a dog care service. Rather than leaving the mutt in the car we would collect it from the owners on arrival and take it to an air conditioned room with cages. Good few years ago but it might be worth checking if they still do it.

@Thornyhill, never been available when we used to use the ferry with Meg. She was absolutely fine in the car, although I don't remember using it in hot weather. @Justynkasz, maybe club together with another one or two people to buy frequent traveller tickets?

That’s an idea, been thinking also if I can reseii or just give away tickets to someone just to use them. He’s good in the car but I wonder about the noise ? That could be a problem he’s scared of some noises.I came in to the UK by ferry but it was about 15 years ago can’t remember anything. They say they can give you an escort to go to the car and check how’s your dog but is it true?

Aaah forgot. Ferry wants to have the kennel in the car, my dog is huge and car is saloon, no chance to fit this size in it. Prices weren’t much cheaper too. I’ll look around to buy this frequent traveler of someone I think.

A bright spark in our ski group assured us the 'two day returns' trick was possible. It wasn't. I was sceptical (did they really think the operators wouldn't be wise to this?), but was out-voted. It was picked up at the entry gate. I assume via ANPR. They just said we'd have to go and buy a new ticket of the right sort, at great cost. Annoyingly, I got the blame for not being convincing enough in the discussion with the gate operator, but once we were queried, it seemed to me the game was up - they knew what was happening and I wasn't going to dig myself in deeper and start lying conspicuously.

@Justynkasz, our dog used to just lie on the back seat there was no need for a crate, but I'm still much happier travelling on the Eurotunnel with them. One of ours was quite carsick when we first got her, I would have hated to leave her on a ferry crossing, and then find vom all over the place.

Get one away day return. Phone up and tell them your car has broken down so you are having to arrange repairs and ask whether you can change the return booking. They will probably say no and that you have to buy a single crossing to return. Saved a little bit

A single ticket bought close to departure may well cost more than the original return at peak times.
On an occasion I needed to return home early, I was unable to swap my ticket without paying another 180€ or so. I ended up getting a last minute ferry ticket for less than half that.

True, return tickets already expensive imagine buying them on spot. 7 days will cost me a lot but if legit trick I’ll go for it, if I have to look around for bailiffs later I’ll pass it😀

For about £450 you can buy a season ticket giving you 10 single trips. You will be using two on this trip and presumably you will use at least another two on skiing trips. You can share the tickets with a ‘friend’ e.g. other Snowhead, as long as you enter their details at the time of purchase, and you don’t need to use all 10 trips to make it a cheaper option than buying tickets for each trip.

Can those friends be children / partners ie, a family of 4 using 4 on way out and 4 on way back?

@admin, And even if you buy the Flexiplus version @ £1,320 for 10 the cost per journey is only slightly more than the non-Flexiplus versions bought singly. I'm an 8 hour minimum drive from the tunnel coming from either direction, so trying to time my arrival is a nightmare. I share the book of 10 tickets with a friend and it works a treat.
