Planning a trip to the dolomites for a long weekend-3 days of skiing.Hatching a plan but need some help with logistics.
The idea is to stay in Cortina for the first night, ski one or both of the cortina areas on the first day, then get a bus to Rifugio Lagazuoi to stay the night.
Ski the hidden valley ,then taxi back to Falzareggo to ski the Cingue tori area-with a view to staying in Rifugio Averau for the night.Then ski back to cortina for a days skiing at the end.
I have tried researching as much as possible but can't seem to find details of the bus from Cortina to Falzareggo-does it run regularly? would we be better getting a private taxi?
Is it feasible to ski hidden Valley and get to cinque tori (or conversely is that not enough skiing for a day?)

Maybe just a night in Lagazuoi to do the hidden valley first thing and skip averau/cinque tori if its that tortuous??
have skied in the area but not this specific plan-so don't know if too much faff etc

@Knee Deep, personally I think Cinque Torre skiing very enjoyable and better than Hidden Valley by far. Accept that hype about HV makes it seem a must do and indeed it’s scenic!
However, we comfortably did a long morning starting 9am Lagazuoi, then Cinque Torre. Lunch about 1.30. Hidden Valley at reasonable pace with pic stops.
Then all way back to Arabba, with time to head over the Arabba Flyer and do a red and black b4 5pm.
We didn’t hang around but not silly speeds.

@PeakyB, thanks. trying to work things out from the map-do you have to go up lagazoi cable car to ski to cinque torri or can you ski from down from passo falzarego?
I have done the hidden valley before in poor visibility, how is the cinque torri more enjoyable out of interest?

You can easily do hidden valley and Cinque Torre in one day. You can see ski from Falzerego into the Cinque Torre lift system and there is a link bus from Cinque Torre into Cortina lift system and to Cortina

You can ski the Averau half of the Super-8 circuit around Cinque Torri, Averau & Col Gallina from Falzarego, as well as the Front Face from Lagazuoi to Falzarego. Some linking pistes are pretty flat, particularly the one that drops from Falzarego to the base of 5Torri (Bai die Dones). If you drop down the Hidden Valley, you need to catch a taxi-bus back up to Falzarego. You can't ski back to Cortina from 5Torri, you need to catch the skibus.
You are probably overestimating the length of these runs. The Hidden Valley could be skied in 30-40 mins, though obviously it takes a bit longer with the cablecar ride and the taxibus back up Falzarego. The Averau circuit can easily be done in a couple of hours, unless you repeat runs. You could easily do the whole lot in around 4 hrs or make a longer day of it by repeating runs.

The problem I can envisage with staying in the mountain Rifugi would be carrying your overnight bag around with you on the 2 or 3 days you are hoping to be up there. I reckon it would be a whole lot simpler to do it all in a day from a base in Cortina.

@Knee Deep, from the timetable, you'll notice that not all the skibuses up to Falzarego depart from Cortina bus station near the centre of town, but they turn around at Son Dei Prade on the Tofana side of Cortina ski area. It's near No. 29 on this ski map:

@luigi, thanks for the link to the timetable -have searched for it on the internet everywhere and it wasn't popping up.
we really fancy staying up in the rifugios-have managed it before with a few basics in a rucksack (literally a few basics!!)
@albob, thanks for the link to that report-having read it, will probably look at spending a night in refugio scoiattoli instead-sounds great.
