nice one . so if i was going to do that myself could i use epoxy/resin and then ptex over it? I dont have any metal weld stuff

clean the base.
trim the hole so that it is uniform/square/rectangle try to use a template to cut as this will help you cut the patch, carefully cut/chisel out the old base material.
give it a really good clean.
cut an p tex base repair patch to size, use your template.
mast the base with masking tape(use a good one that prevents seepage.
epoxy in a repair strip, try not to get the sticky stuff on the base.
put a layer of masking tape over the patch, use a rigid plate or block over he full area od the repair (pluse a bit extra) and clamp down for 24 hours.
remove the clamps and masking tape.
file/plane, and rewax the full base.

@dang8701, hmmm, looks like your skis are too worn to even repair easily. But you mention over there they are rhoppers.
I’d start by dropping some ptex in and see if it sticks.
Then I’d forget about it. They are generally toast anyway.

P-tex won't stick to the core or the metal edge.
An epoxy primer is also pretty useless.
A p-tex patch is the correct repair for that size of damage (especially if it's underfoot) but is the most expensive/time consuming & if the ski has had a few grinds then there's the added time/difficulty of dressing down the patch to the rest of the base.
For a fast, cheap and secure repair it needs welding with a metal grip foundation layer and then a ptex weld over the top. I'd charge £10 + tax for that and you'd be in'n'out my shop in 15 mins.

It's not possible from that out of focus pic to see either the thickness of the edge or the thickness of the ptex base.

its about the size of my thumb.  it, I'm going to probably use solarez microbaloon UV cure resin and ptex candle on top of that.That is just the epoxy/resin I have. Says it adheres to metal and there is no reason it wouldnt adhere to the core plastic. Have to wait for a full cure since it's UV cure and the black ptex would cover it up, but thats fine I think it should do it after I scuff it up post cure and drip ptex. If not there are more used skis down the street. And believe it or not a shop down the road is offering every major brand for 40 % off they are hurting so bad.
I dream of getting the Factions they have for less than 500 bucks, but i would be deathly afraid to take them out this season.
