Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Black Crow Captis 2018

Hi Snowheads!

First post on the forum having lurked for a short time! I'm in the process of buying some new skis in the 90mm bracket, and the Black Crows Captis is currently top of my list having demoed them earlier in the year. I was wondering if anyone on here skis on them as I am debating between the 178 and the 184 as I can't remember which size I demoed and not going to get a chance to try them before I buy.

I'm 27, 185cm tall, weigh 75kg, and have skied for about 23 years, including a couple of seasons, so comfortable on a pair of planks and a fairly aggressive skier. I have skied on skis between 178 and 182 for the past few years. Looking at the Black Crows size guide it's telling me I should go for the 184, and I suspect that's the one I go for, but a little voice in my head is saying that they may feel a little long - can anyone who has them/has skied on them comment of how they feel? i.e. do they ski short or long? I suspect they ski a little short given in the double rocker but thought best to ask here first.

I fully appreciate that you should try before you buy, and I have, but just cannot remember which length I was on...

Thank you for any input.

Not the same but similar ski. I'm a bit shorter (183) and a bit heavier (80kg) than you, like to hoon about but wanted a versatile all mountain ski. I ended up with the Black Crows Camox and was stuck between sizes. Went for the 186 and it's brilliant. Very fast and stable but also works well in tight bumps. Not done trees or chutes yet... but very happy.
I chose the longer ski for float and stability. I can chuck it about. It skis a bit short due to rocker and twin.
Black Crows were very helpful on email before I purchased.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@freid, as per @gravity-slave, call or email them, tell them what you told us and ask for advise. They get the feedback from riders so know their skis best. At 185cm good skier i’d guess you want the 184’s

Thank you both for your help. I have emailed black crows with the info above and will see what they come back with. I suspect it will be the 184 for me.

I have now heard back from Black Crows and they have confirmed the 184 given the double rocker.
