Poster: A snowHead

Hi all,
I'm trying to book a last minute trip and have seen that Esprit have a couple of very cheap chalet rooms available in Peisey and Les Arcs. It's just me and my wife going, no kids, and when I spoke to Esprit they initially said that you can't book unless you've got kids, but then said they sometimes open them up last minute, but they were quite vague... Has anyone stayed in an Esprit hotel or chalet without kids before?
Cheers!

Have you tried their sister company ski total for last minute deals?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've had a look but nothing as good as the Esprit deals unfortunately...

My husband and a friend did about 25 yrs ago. In Montchavin. They had a good time. The company and its policies will have changed a lot since then.
I'd have thought that they will want to fill the chalets up with people with kids first partly in order to sell more childcare/ski extras and partly so that those staying with children will be with people in the same situation. We once went to a chalet with our 10 month old that was supposed to be set up with childcare etc for families but no other families had booked so we shared with a group of 5 chaps and a couple who had not had children and did not appear to like them! (this was not Esprit and the company in question no longer exists). that chalet holiday was such a disaster I will never go on a chalet holiday again! We now go to high end self catering places and eat out.
I'd suggest booking Hotel du Golf in Arc1800 and the Eurostar ski train.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Www.silverski.co.uk are advertising rooms with Gatwick flights for 319 or so if that compares well with the esprit price? Not sure where exactly but they only go to 3V, La Plagne and similar French resorts I think. Not as family aimed as esprit I would suggest (though happy to welcome families I am sure!)

I enquired about a trip that looked to be a good deal with Esprit, 3 generations of my family would have been involved but as the youngest was 20 at the time they would not offer us the places!

skiied with silverski. Absolutely fine. Decent food, comfortable chalet in le praz, albeit wine not great. My trip with a friend is always the best last minute deal we can find and I would happily ski with them again. Slightly better than crystal but are not high end luxury.

We'll be doing this in March, albeit we've tagged on to a group trip with friends with kids. When we called up they were clear that you couldn't book on your own. We had to give the booking reference or name of the lead booking so they could link it up. From speaking to people who have gone with them it's not unusual to see people with no kids, but always as part of a larger group.
We'll be right next to the Rond Point in Meribel - location is wasted on children!!

Not stayed, but did eat in an Esprit chalet a couple of years ago - my friends with kids were staying there. They did offer me a room, but the price was ridiculous (just me in the room), so I booked a self catering apartment in the building next door.
I had to provide Esprit my details for a records check (they said) and my friends with kids vouched for me, so they let me join for afternoon tea and evenings. The staff were lovely, but they did give the (great) impresssion they were very protective of the kids under their care, and so weren't automatically set up to have non-parents wandering around.
I liked it, as did my friends who keep going back.

Have to say I am quite pleased by this as an (probably ex now) Esprit customer. Been with them 5 times and part of their selling point for us was that only families with children could book. We did Mark Warner who have a similar set up for childcare etc (though IMO not quite as good) and that was a mix of families and people without kids and the atmosphere was very different.
I hope you find something though. Have you tried Igluski and Sunweb?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Yep, found a nice hotel in Val Di Fassa via Iglu, 11 days to go!

Esprit - great if you have kids, we have used them many times. Would imagine it would be a bit like hell on earth without kids though.
