Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

K2 Pinnacle, Atomic Vantage 95, Blizzard ZeroG 95.

I bought K2 Pinnacle 95's last year. Lovely to ski in fluffy powder (where I tested them), playful and easy, you can't go wrong. But too soft and floppy tipped for much else - hard pack, icy pistes, cutting through crud. Lacks positive edge control. No visible camber underfoot so no bounce back on aggressive turns and hops. I like my powder but I like a bit of fast fun too! . Looking for a stiffer, more reactive all mountain ski that will give back as much as you put into it, with top edge control for hard pack and icy tops. I use Dynafit bindings as I like to have a ski I can use anywhere, including skinning up to find good snow.

I have honed in on three possibles:

Volkl Mantra. Great reviews as an all rounder. Con: Heavy ski at 4.0kg a pair.
Atomic Vantage 95 C. Mid weight about 3.6kg. All mountain ski. Have used Atomics for years and liked the hard edges and the great reactivity so a bit biased; reviews rate it a good all rounder.
Blizzard ZeroG 95 Designed for touring but gets great reviews as an all mountain ski with good edges and reactivity . Recommended to me to suit my requirements by the local specialist ski shop in Nice. Amazingly light at 2.4kg which makes me a bit suspicious about its strength but the reviews say otherwise . Probably my top choice if I can be assured about the latter.

Anyone with opinions here?

I have Mantras mounted for tele. Yep definitely a "do anything" ski, but they are very heavy.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Instead of Vantage 95s have a look at the Vantage 100CTI. I found them to be significantly stiffer and although being wider found them a lot more solid on piste than the 95s. Think the Vantage 95s will be pretty similar to the Pinnacles where as the 100s will offer a noticeably more 'beefy' ride

How about the updated 2018 Pinnacle 95?

According to the reviews I’ve read, K2 have added more metal and weight to address the exact issues you are having.

I picked up a set before Xmas (for 2500nok (£240) with F12 tour binding!) but haven’t had time to ski them yet. Hopefully I will get out on them before the end of the month.

Spoon - thanks for that tip... could be an answer. K2 seem to have read my mind! That price in Nok is an attraction.. I see the new weight is 1.850 kg ... 3.7kg the pair. Have to balance that against the incredible 2.4 kg lightness of the Blizzard for touring. Decisions, decisions.

Look at the Head Kore 93. Haven’t skied them but the 105 s are excellent in variable snow, stiff and light.

I like the zero g 95 -classic shape, great in hard snow, but felt like chopsticks compared to the Heads
