Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

All-mountain Skis (and where to buy in Meribel Motterat)

Last year I did just over 2 weeks on Black Crows Camox skis in a vareity of snow (which is ideally what they're suited for). I almost bit the bullet and bought a pair however I've been doing some research and just seen the Daemons which are a new release this year. I'm going out to the 3-Valleys in a few weeks and planning on buying a set of skis (not sure what yet).

Few questions:

Does anyone have any experience comparing the two skis?

Will I be able to try both sets in the resort? IIRC you pay to hire them but that is waived if you buy a set?

What are the prices in the resort like compared to here in the UK from Freeze Pro or something like that?

I'm not being stupid but why don't you contact Black Crows and ask? They're not big enough to be above answering e-mails, like you'd probably get with Head or Salomon or something. They'll be able to tell you where their dealers are in the 3Vs, and if anyone is able to set you up with a demo it's the manufacturer.

I haven't skied the Camox, but the Daemons are quite unusual and won't suit everyone. The full rocker is great in some conditions and they can be really fun, but they do take some getting used to (especially in some of the conditions you'd expect to use a 99mm ski in).

'Ungroomed hard snow' (or more accurately, not deep snow) rather than standard all mountain ski was my impression.

I have the Camox and absolutely love them. They shone all week last year in Val Thorens, from off piste down Mont Valon in 30cm or so of fresh tracks to hardpack at the end of the day.

I also saw the Daemons and thought they look very interesting but less versatile, depending on your terrain and style.

Black Crows were awesome on email with pre-sales enquiries, helping recommend model and length for me. I went with what they suggested and very happy.

I've always found resort quite expensive, but you do come across some great mid/late season deals some times. Ended up buying mine online on Glisshop in the end, who also gave great advice and fast service. I have no local shop and decided to take a gamble based on reviews and recommendations - I wanted to hit the slope skiing and dial myself in to the ski rather than spend my limited time testing. It worked for me, luckily Smile
