Poster: A snowHead
|
I’m off to Champlouc for a long weekend in a couple of weeks and am looking for a transfer for four of us with skis but so far it’s very expensive. As a result I’m thinking about renting a people carrier and driving as it is roughly half the price.
Has anyone driven this trip and if so how is it?
Thanks

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

It will be the same as any other mountain transfer in the Alps.
About 80% flat to slightly rising roads, and the last 20% on some steeper twisties where you may be need snowchains.
Just book it and go, dude.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We drove there from bergamo last Feb. It's a really simple drive, mostly motorway and then the last 18/20k winding uphill, but on pretty wide roads. There is loads of parking free in town and you can ski right back to the village so very easy to get around.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Four ski bags so we need a large boot long or wide enough for our skis

Two and a half hours of driving, mostly motorways. From Verres it goes up, but regular mountain roads, nothing special. You gain hight pretty fast wit quite a few zigzags, but easy peasy generaly.

The issues I have is that none of the rental companies at Bergamo will give me a car with winter tires!!
I’ve driven to plenty of resorts with winter tires and never had an issue but had a terrible experience driving to Sauze without them a few years ago and swore I’d never do it again.
Most will give me chains but I really don’t fancy the hassle of fitting them.
Anyone have an idea if any of the companies will do it?

@maddness, on the cars, my extremely limited experience suggests an estate rather than a people carrier.

Were driving from Bergamo to Gressoney in 2 weeks time. I booked a car through Ryanair, then rang the car hire desk and asked for winter tyres, they charge a supplement of €75. I think I'll ring again before we leave to double check.
