If you drive, you could always take her with you.............
Our cat, who originally hated travelling even the two miles to the vet, became an enthusiastic ski-cat after we lost her sister and she sussed that car trips meant cuddles. Cue the installation of mini-seatbelts so that the trip to France meant a 12 hour cuddle! She understood the whole process, including 'Eurotunnel=opportunity to get out and make new friends', and that road tunnels are boring after the first couple. She always had a strange fixation with large white lorries, standing up to watch as we overtook and then swinging round to see them disappear in the distance behind us.

@boredsurfin, ours was an outside cat in the UK, but an inside one in France. Occasionally I used to take her for a walk early on, before things got busy. It was very amusing to watch the French, who assumed that I had a Parisienne rug-rat on a lead, suddenly realise that it was a cat.
@Boris, just think of the saving on catsitters.......

No savings to be made! We have an informal "we'll walk your dog if you look after our cat" arrangement

I had the pleasure of the parents' dog trying to help me 'pack' for the season (just me, parents weren't going anywhere). She sat at the bedroom door giving me evils. I turned my back for a minute, and when I looked back at her, she was sat at the door giving me evils with one of my base layer tops (had been in my bag) in her mouth...

I have to get rid of the animals before the luggage comes out, cannot cope with the sad faces. The dog's shocking when he sees a suitcase, really mopes and flops about with heavy sigh sound effects, awful guilt inducing nonsense. Now its cat to the cattery, dog to the doggery a day early & i can crack on unhindered by cuteness. They know nothing, they go on holiday & have a good time.

Our cats hated the cattery but are quite happy with staying at home and us paying a neighbours child to come and feed them, over time which actually child has changed (they have 4!). They are much happier but always put a bit of weight on while we are away but are perfectly happy when we come back.

We are in the middle of completing our packing for an early exit in the morning. Cat is sat under the kitchen stool attacking feet. One rather excited dog keeps asking to go outside so she can run around madly for 10 minutes.

well ur felines are all adorable, as are ours (dont know how to add a picture). Although no one added how vindictive they can be. Just got my new ski carrying bag, as the last one was urinated on, and as one knows you just cant get that smell out. We have thrown out couches when prior devil cats decided they would use perfectly good leather couches rather than their boxes. The current 2 are a bit more docile, and i we lock things that are at risk behind doors.

My dog died whilst I was living in Oman (to be fair he was 16). He was used to me going away for long periods of time, but that time strangely as the taxi arrived to pick me up, he just seemed to 'know' and went and sat on my suitcase and would not get off, and snapped at anyone who tried to move him. (Which being a big Alsatian meant he was both difficult to move, and packing a pretty decent snap).
Probably took 10-15 minutes to separate him and the bag so I could go, with the taxi waiting outside. Somehow he knew he wasn't going to see me again and didn't want to let me go.

We took our 18-year-old cat this Christmas to Valloire, first time we've traveled with him for vacation. He wasn't too happy about the 10-hour car ride but settled in by the fire at the apartment. He was pretty annoyed when we promptly packed him up again to go home.
Anyway, it was great to have him around. Nothing like having your organs stomped on at 630 as an early wakeup call...
