Some of the cute Austrian resorts would seem to fit the bill, perhaps Zell am See, Fieberbrunn. Maybe some Swiss resorts too around Interlaken. Italian resorts like Selva or Cortina.

had too chuckle when i read that above, i assume meant they don't need to socialise much (enjoy each others company?), as compared to not being sociable (grinches!!)

Welcome to snowheads @alexb123a,
I couldn't quite get the gist of your first point after " in Europe " sentence, so confused if you don't mind if the recommended is not extended season.
But some suggestions.
Sestriere or Sauze d'oulx for ski areas paired with trip to Turn for days off for the city attractions.
What activities of non skiing do you look for? Do you use a rental car to get around for example?
Val D Anniviers in Switzerland for zinal / grimentz skiing, peaceful beautiful valley for skiing but not sure of other non ski attractions. You can reach the main Rhone? Valley floor via post bus as far as I know
Val Cenis for skiing and the valley Maurienne in which it sits is an ancient route through the alps to Italy. Old fortified monastery amongst other attractions plus next to the Bonneval Sur Arc ski area is the original village of the same name and well worth a visit ( just look at the pictures of this in searches) possibly the best cost options of the above and a great valley to visit.

Can't fault Ski Amade. Ports du Soleil another possibility - staying at Chatel, maybe.

I'd suggest a village resort rather than a complex resort. They're rustic charm is usually simpler
Aosta valley - Courmayeur / La Thuile etc. Reasonable train distance to Turin for a day, Vallee Blanche is doable for a reasonable imtermediate, spend a day at Du Terme in Pre St Didier, or skip through the Mt Blanc tunnel to Chamonix where they all sorts of weird stuff.

Fly Manchester to Geneva, hire a car and then stay at the Bains de Saillon and drive to ski in Verbier, Crans-Montana or other Valais resorts. You may find you can fly direct MAN>Sion with Swiss but you probably have to go via Zurich, which won't be any quicker.

Staying at a thermal resort makes for a different focus, with the skiing complementing the spa experience. Nearby places of interest for days out are Martigny (e.g. the Giannada Foundation http://www.gianadda.ch/210_expositions/) and Lausanne and Montreux. Other spas locally are at Ovronnaz and Leukerbad, both up in the mountains. See the myswitzerland.com website for offers and regional suggestions.

You'll see reference to the regional 'Magic Pass' which is a thermal/ski resort pass for the whole area, so you could try all sorts of places. However, it doesn't include Verbier and the 4 Valleys Domain which you would really want to visit if you're there. So it might work out better to just pay as and when. You'd need to research the economics.
