Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Please excuse my ignorance but I'm off to Sauze and I'm planning to buy some new skis in the resort. Do shops tend to hold a selection of demo skis and if so would I be expecting to send a happy day going backwards and forwards trying different pairs? I've never bought 'in resort' before, hence my ignorance.

IME shops don't tend to do free demos to people they don't know too easily. Most retail shops in resort are also hire shops, and if it was common to do free demos of skis, nobody would hire. They would just demo a different ski every day and then go home.
What is more common and you may be able to do, is discuss a deal with a shop whereby you try a few different rental skis over the course of the week, on the basis that at the end of the week, if you buy a pair of skis from their shop they will discount the hire fee from the final price.
This means you still end up having not spent money on the hires but they're not out of pocket.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

What you describe is exactly how a good ski shop should operate. Charge you a day's demo rental and let you ski as many skis as you want back to back until you decide which one you want to take home to meet mum.
