We arr a mixed group of 8 and have flights booked to salzburg for feb 3rd for 5 nights. We have some newbies with us who would like to sample some Austrian Apres.
Also whats the skiing like. We have done most of the ski resorts in Austria and would like to do something new.
Idealy we are lòoking for decent ski area and a bit of life at the end of day.

Wow, you must have done a lot of skiing!
No idea about Maria Alm I'm afraid.

We go to Maria Alm every year, and love it, but it's not somewhere I would recommend for the apres tbh. There's the Dengl, Chilli's and, erm, that's about it really. Having said that, a couple of other bars will be pumping from 5ish till 7ish but after that its just those 2
The skiing is pretty extensive now and includes the King's tour to Muhlbach(and back) and it is a very short drive to other areas like Zell am Zee and Saalbach if you have a car ( a super ski card is Eur15 more than the Hochkonig card and covers 20+ areas)

Hi, I haven't skied Maria Alm, but am considering it this year! An Austrian friend of mine said the village is 'very Austrian', so if it's authenticity you're after, I think you'll have it! I've heard the same as robandliza when it comes to apres. It sounds like there'll be some, but it's probably on the chilled side. I'm wondering 2 things, if anyone can help?
- what are the chances of there being good snow in mid-March?
- if the snow is poor in the Hochkonig area, how easy is it to access the higher skiing elsewhere in ski Amade?
Cheers,

Stayed there three times.First in the Alpenparks which was ok but no bar and twice at the Ader which we really like.Farly good restaurant and bar and busy in the evenings( also has a spa). The Dengl Alm do fillet steaks served on a hot stone which was pretty good. On the mountain the Steinbeck Alm was really good.Live music some afternoons and really decent food.Theres pretty much one way down most mountains and some of it is fairly steep for beginners.List system excellent with a few heated chairs but a dreadfully slow twin chair out of dienten on the way back to Maria Alm.As mentioned really close to other resorts and a taxi to one of the gondolas in Leogang would only take 10/15 mins.Think you can get the train from saalfelden to Zell am Zee.oh and there is night skiing on the hill in the centre of the village.

There should be plenty snow mid-March, though it's difficult to say what quality. I've never had any trouble skiing there about then.
Access to other areas would be relatively easy if you have your own transport (though still a longish drive to other Ski Amadé areas). Otherwise Leogang would be the easiest to reach by bus (though not in Ski Amadé). The Kitzsteinhorn glacier is about half an hour away (in a car) but I'm not sure how easy it would be to go there by public transport (probably bus to Saalfelden, train to Zell am See, bus to Kitzsteinhorn). I doubt you'll need to do that
