Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Replacement for Equipe V3 Race

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi, first post here so be nice...

Ive got a pair of Salomon Equipe V3 Race slalom ski's which have done me well for the last few seasons. Literally like skiing on rails, and quicker than anything else Ive ever used. Unfortunately they have now reached the end of their lives and Im looking for something similar to replace them with. They're 120/66/108's at 165cm, and something similar in profile would be nice. I will be looking to buy second-hand, ideally with bindings. Can anyone recommend a similar slalom race style of ski? The X-Race were the Salomon replacement for the Equipe, so will look for those, but any alternatives to consider?

Are they the FIS ones?

So, any slalom race ski will be similar. You just need to know if you want the FIS ones or the punter ones.

I wouldn't buy used as you ought to be able to get a pair from a few years back for about the same price, but new.

Or, if you live in the alps, your local bourse aux skis ought to provide the solution, and super cheap.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

No, just the punter ones I think. The FIS ones were 'LAB' denoted. Sadly Im from the UK, so no bourse aux skies here, just the internet and rather expensive physical shops.

Then any manufacturer's will be more or less as good. eBay would be my first port of call...

Atomic Redster Edge SL

Rossignol Hero Elite HP....this is the most forgiving version. There are various options, like the ST Racing and ST Ti - which use different plates that affect performance)

Condi, try Ski Bartlett at Hillingdon. They're race ski specialists and often have great deals on previous years race skis that aren't on their website.

@spyderjon I'll give them a ring, thanks.

@Dove, thanks, will have a look. Not sure I want to be spending quite that much to be honest.

Does anyone have experience of the sellers on Ebay who ship from Austria/France, etc? Are they any good or just knackered ex-rental gear nobody in France would buy?

@under a new name, Thin edges?? for £260?

@Condi, Ebay purchases of ex rental gear is a lucky dip, it may be hardly used or may be hammered and serviced to thin base and edge, it also may not actually be the retail version, but a rental version of the ski.

Friend in France (lives next door) purchased some Rossi Pursuit 18's 2 years ago, from a ex rental type shop on ebay, they were like new, so another mate got some of the same from the same shop, at about the same price, and they were very worn. It was impossible to tell from the pictures. Ski bartlett are excellent for what you want as @spyderjon, states, they may also have customers who are looking to sell older race stuff. This lot in Sheffield I have used and they are good and were really helpful http://skiracing.co.uk/
