Hello All,
Had a fantastic first ski trip to Grindelwald/Jungfrau in March. Skied all over though didn't go as far as Murren. But loved all rest. Previously only skied in Scotland. Now thinking about next year. Hoping to go late Jan/early Feb (not half-term). Travelling with a 15 yr old. No interest in night-life, though we did enjoy going ice-skating and an impromptu game of ice-hockey. Want lots of long runs, no long walks with skis to lifts. Do we stick to the one place we know or try somewhere else - still got some Swiss Frances

@Mazzarazza, If you're hoping to go late Jan/early Feb have you considered either the pre-Birthday Bash week (in Alleghe) or the Birthday Bash week (in Arabba)? The Dolomites have amazing scenery, great mountain restaurants with very reasonable prices, and miles and miles of well maintained pistes.

Cervinia has lots of long runs has the option of popping over to Zermatt side to spend your CHF and some of the best ski food on the planet.
I wouldn't limit yourself to one place forever.

Thanks for comments - will consult with 15yr old- he has only recently come round to the idea of going somewhere different but the idea of a 22km run sure appeals

Cervinia would suit, with some great, long, easy runs. Also for an adult and even a 15 year old, skiing in 2 countries on the same day is good. Cervinia restaurants nearly all take Swiss Francs too, as lots (including me) come over from Zermatt for a couple of fantastic restaurants ( Chalet Etoile, and Bontardini), as well as the skiing.

The Jungfrau scenery is awesome with the Eiger looming, but there's a whole world of ski resorts out there to explore.
Cervinia has some great cruising pistes and there's the challenges of Zermatt over the hill if you want, as well as classic views of the mighty Matterhorn. Great ski area, go for it!

I think you actually mean “Continental” Europe...
Anyhoo. There is some advantage in going back to somewhere you know and understand. But it’s also nice to try something new and the Italian cadence is very refreshing and rather a different (not necessarily betther nor worse than CH) ambience. I would expect you are likely to find more sophisticated food and better red wine, at better value vs. GBP, than the Bernese Oberland.
Cervinia is pretty straightforward to navigate and very good for “intermediate” skiers.

If you love the Grindelwald area, you'll love Cervinia/Zermatt area. Go for it. You won't regret it

As an add on, for my one off retirement trip last year we Did Wengen, Verbier and Zermatt over 3 weeks, for piste skiing which is what we primarily do, Zermatt/ Cervinia is way our in front of the 3 resorts we visited. (p.s. to stress this was a one off retirement bash, I am not enormously wealthy!)
