Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Samoens village or 1600 ski hire

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello,

We're visiting Samoens (staying down in the village) for the first time in January, and working out where's best to hire skis from. I've narrowed it down to Xtreme Glisses, at the bottom of the GME, and Jay Sport up at 1600.

Does anyone know how easy it is to get from the top of the GME to the 1600 ski hire/bar area where Jay Sport is? I believe there used to be a lift but the new Club Med development seems to have got rid of that. Is there a new lift going up, or buses or something? Looks like a bit of a trek if we've got to walk up from the top of the bubble.

Sorry don't know about Jay Sport and top lay out but we hired from Xtreme Glisses two years ago and very happy. Walked in morning to their shop as we left boots and skis there, then sometimes got bus back to village, pretty frequent. Good three days ski school/intro from Zig Zag and great shared transfer with go massif.

If you're staying in the village it's easier to just hire in the village.

You can now get a little bus from 1600 to the ski hire but it is a pain so much better to hire in the village.

Go to the shop nearest to where you are staying, don't muck about at 1600. If you are driving to the shops then Xtreme and Roland Gay have the easiest parking.

Roland gay, in town, book online, get a locker with them at 1600. Fab service. They also have a shop at 1600 so any problems you can swap up there!

Thanks for the advice. We had discounted Roland Gay as he's closed for lunch 12:30-14:00, and we'll be arriving around then on a Friday hoping to ski as much of the afternoon as possible - it's only a (budget!) long weekend break so every minute counts.

We're staying just off the bus route, so we'll be walking or driving to the GME each morning - Looks like Xtreme Glisses would be best for that, and leaving the stuff there overnight would be a big help too.
