Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Avoriaz as a base? or Morzine?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

The last three years we've stayed in Morzine and really enjoyed the town and bars (Dixie Bar, Tibetan and Bec Jaune being our favourites) however this coming Winter there's only two of us (two singles) coming out and as such the cost of relevant chalets in Morzine seem to be quite expensive.

We've looked at Avoriaz as an option as obviously we'd have the option of skiing straight out onto the snow which is a plus but was wondering what the evening nightlife is like? We're not looking to party til dawn, but would like some atmosphere until late evening.
Sound the place for us?

Another option would be to go into a shared chalet where we'd prefer two rooms. Anyone have any links to central Morzine chalets that book by the room that wont cost the earth?

Thanks

Depends what you are looking for... Chalet Sherpa is cheap and cheerful...

I stayed there last December, and although not at the luxury end of the market it was fine as a base, and the staff were very welcoming (and even started breakfast a bit early so two of us could make it to Avoriaz in time for the start of the course we were on.)

Been to Avoriaz a couple of times and although it has bars and great skiing I have never considered it to be great for night life.

As a couple of guys (maybe you are a guy & girl but mates thus the singles) you could travel anywhere in the Alps. Single rooms are the issue! You may have to identify where has single rooms then choose the resort from there.

Crystal and Inghams have single rooms in Tignes, la Plagne, Meribel but when and how many? Noted on a thread about Ischgl yesterday, which is good for après and skiing, that some of the hotels had singles.

ClubMed Chamonix do single rooms at same price as doubles often. Fully inclusive prce but right in middle of Chamonix.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Have you considered a self-catering apartment. might be the best option if you want separate bedrooms.

If people want separate rooms the last place you want to go is France. A typical apartment for 4 will have 2 bunk beds in the entry and two sofas which convert to single beds in the living room.

Single beds are rare in ski resorts but in Austria some B&B style small hotels outside the main resort area often have a reasonable supply of singles Mr Google will find them.

What about the Aubergarde or Le Cottage via Mountain Mavericks? both super central and by the room.
