Poster: A snowHead

My ski's are quiver killed for a boot sole length of 307mm with direct mounted bindings to this fixed length. However, after suffering issues with the boots being incorrectly fitted (too big) i've now dropped down from a 26 to 25.5 which has been much better. The boots i've been recommended to get are 299mm in sole length. Will this 8mm difference require the ski's to be re-drilled to suit this shorter sole length or is there a small amount of tolerance?

@jkchops, Which binding do you have on your skis?
Normally there is some adjustment in the heel piece, and although this is primarily for setting the forward pressure, on some bindings there is sufficient movement to adapt to a shorter boot.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

No. Bindings adjust.

It depends on the length adjustment range on the heel of the binding which varies widely between makes/models.
The X13 is a rebadged Tyrolia heel and, IIRC, it should have sufficient forward pressure adjustment for the heel to go forward the 8mm needed.
Some variants of that heel have a plastic infill between the lower base and the upper heel (it wraps around the engagement rails and is either red or yellow) which has a cut-out to accommodate the head of the rear mounting screws. If that is present it means that you'll have to move the heel back to its original length/position to remove/re-install the Quiver Killer mounting screws.

@spyderjon, you are expert in this. I clearly am not. So some bindings on the market don't have size adjustment?
I am amazed!

Didn't say that some don't have range adjustment. For flat mounted bindings the adjustment depends on the make model. And often that adjustment us not equal in both directions.
For example, if the users boot is used to set the jig length then the heel of a Pivot/FKS will only go +/-4mm, a Vist heel will go +10mm but only -6mm, most Tyrolia heels will go -12mm and +8mm and the Marker Squire/Griffon is similar.
So if the user goes down one mono size (which could be more than 10mm if the make/model changes as well) is not a given that the binding will adjust.

@spyderjon, Hi Jon, thank you for this bit of hope. It was you who QK them when i purchased the directors last year. I can't see any red/yellow on the bindings at all so hopefully they can be adjusted enough.

@jkchops, I wouldn't expect to hear from im in a hurry - he's left today for the EoSB.
Hope you're not in a rush. I'd guess that you'll probably hear from him when he's back, in just over a week.
