I am packing for a ski trip and have discovered my brother has run off with my ski bag. I'm looking at the materials around the house and wondering what I can get away with... Wrapping them up in bin bags and duct tape?
Have any snowheads ever been in /heard of a similar situation? How can I get my skis to Canada?

You might want to check the airlines policy. Some at least say that skis must be in a recognised ski bag.

I loaned out my ski bag and forgot to get it back a few years ago. Morning of travelling I realised this so wrapped them in cling film. No drama

@afrodizzy, any old bubble wrap handy with that duct tape? Something like that to protect the edges.
I think Blue Peter once made a ski bag from old washing up liquid bottles, cereal boxes and paper doilies.

I had a case sliced by unbagged skis once - make sure they're covered by summat more than clingfilm!!

@afrodizzy, is it air canada? They say skis have to be in a tube but don't enforce it. Bin bags and lots of duct tape, maybe pipe or cardboard down the edges under the tape if you have got it. You might be asked to sign a damage waiver. Put scissors in your hold luggage to get into the package and buy a bag out there to come back.
.....or nip out and buy a bag.

Just bear in mind that if you seal your skis in plastic or a plastic container, they may acquire some rust on the edges - I did this with my first skis, but having said that, they survived the trauma. Recommend wrapping first in card or old fluffy dressing gown (this works for me  ) and then plastic. And unpack asap!

Unlikely you will be allowed to take them without a 'recognisable ski bag,' as the airlines are scared of being liable for damage.
