Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Compression tights

I think we all know the feeling; wake up on day two and those legs! Even after all the gym work, running up sand dunes, biking and other forms of torture you've still managed to push it too hard on day one.

So would a fancy pair of 3/4 compression tights help in any way? I've just been at the receiving end of a lengthy sales pitch from the owner of a local sports shop and, although I have a lot of time and respect for him, I'm not convinced.

Before I rush out and spend a chunk of money on some fancy tights does anyone have any experience? Do they actually make a difference or is it all just a bit of a trend?

And for what it's worth; I do get fit before I head off for the mountains. Perhaps I should hold back a bit on day one.

I wear some 3/4 a400 skins ones for my last two weeks.

Do they make a difference who knows short of cutting the leg off one side I cant think how you could Test it. However they keep me warm dry and 'snug'. I will keep on wearing them and will replace them when they wear out (I use them down the gym as well)

Sportpursuit have some 3/4 2xu tights in various sizes for around £45 which may work out cheaper if you get some.

Gut feeling and a tiny amount of experience suggest they will make zero difference. Spend the money on a good bottle of wine at lunch. That will do far more to improve your skiing and bring pleasure.

Oh the look of horror on my wife's face was almost worth the £40 I paid when I suggested I went to breakfast in them like some of the women at the hotel were doing....

@pieman666, please don't! There's another snowHead who does this on Bashes and it puts me right off my breakfast! Skullie

I have some 3/4 Skins tights which are really cool (IMHO) and they're the best thing I've come across for a base layer. I don't think make one iota of difference to "performance", in my experience of using these and other brands for a couple of seasons.

I'd be very happy for anyone who's fit to wear them for breakfast; I probably won't notice anyone who's not.

Yep: Most think the same when we see him. ?????

Breakfast should alway be in either full ski gear or get up early and eat wearing Jeans and then spend 1 minute going to your room for a quick 2 minute change.

As for compression tights. I find they work for me.

I have these as a base layer. They are comfortable and helped keep me warm. I think that is the most important aspect for muscle fatigue.

I wear the half short skins as I have them for running anyway and they make a brilliant base layer.
I'll be honest though, for recovery & reduction of leg fatigue I think the best results are from sleeping in them...
I don't do it much for skiing (maybe I don't put enough effort in Laughing) but I've worn them after marathons and on multi-day ultras and think they helped. If it was only physiological who cares.
They do stop you jumping out of bed with calf cramp too, if that afflicts you.
Skins even sell "recovery skins" for the purpose, but that may just be to get you you to buy some more. Yes, of course I did...

Base layers- I'd only think of wearing a base layer on my lower half in very cold weather. Do some of you wear them all through the season?

I love the way that 'base layer' sounds so scientific while they are basically just Long Johns - but possibly made of plastic.

@foxtrotzulu, I wear a merino base layer all season, much easier to wash than the next layer out.

Possibly, but don't you overheat? Also, I don't get sweaty knees so the only reason for my salopettes to need a wash is because they get dirty on the outside. Then again, maybe if I wore a base layer all year around I might end up with sweaty knees!
