Thanks to all who gave me advice on this resort we are going on the 25th of feb and we are really looking forward to it as i think it will really compliment our skiing as we like nice cruising runs. Can anyone tell me what the long blue run down to [i think it's called vorderglen] is like and where is the lift to take you back up the slopes is it far away from the end of the run. I don't know if any other snowheads will be out there i'm sure there will be, fingers crossed that the snow keeps good for us.

It certainly is. For intermediate cruisers I can think of nowhere better that I've been. As Rachel says the long blue down to Vorderglemm has a lift waiting for you at the end. It takes you up the "Saalbach" side and is convenient for getting back to that village. You can't go back up to the top of where you just started. It is one of the few places in the circuit that is "one-way".

andyarmitage, where are you staying? There are a few Snowheads out there that week and we were looking to meet up on the Sunday for the rugby (if they're showing it). I'm sure we'll meet up at other times too as the resort isn't that big.

Adamski, we'll be watching the Saturday games too as we should be there by about 1.30. Like you said, we'll swap numbers nearer the time - only 3 and 1/2 weeks and counting!!

hayley t, I know you are an avid rugby fan, but even I would forego the England v Wales game if I was in Saalbach, and I'm a WRU coach! Sorry, but I'd be coming down Bernkogel rather than sat in a bar watching the rugby, particularly as the conditions will probably be superb.

Peter B, but we can have our cake and eat it! I don't think we will have time to squeeze in some skiing on Saturday afternoon by the time we get ourselves sorted, but KO on Sunday is at 4pm (CET) so we can ski all day and stagger off the slopes into the pub just in time for rugby!

Horray- sound awesome - I'm off to saalbach too for the first time tomorrow for a long weekend with my boyfriend. I've only heard good things about this resort. Any tips for good spots to go out in the evening -or nice restaurants.. ? we're staying at a little pension called Astergut on the Liftnahe in saalbach. Alos seen there's snow forecast for sunday - so here's hoping Monday will be a powder day!

bexstar, we stayed in Hinterglemm but ate in Saalbach one night. I can thoroughly recommend the restaurant at the Bauer hotel. Also, try some Austrian red wine there - it's surprisingly good!

Also- one more thing.. we are hiring a car from salzburg and driving over to the resort.. anyone done the drive before? How long should it take us? About an hour and a half? Anything we need to watch out for?

bexstar, dunno about last week but we were there the week before and the conditions were excellent, helped by a dump of 30 cms mid-week. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. We went by coach from Salzburg & took about an hour & half, cutting across a corner of Germany.

Bexstar, you couldn`t have chosen a better resort.
Apres ski immediately after skiing - Hinterhagalm on Blue 52 - very Austrian, cheesy and jolly.
Night life: Castellos, something or another `an Triff`, and Arena. There a glass fronted place with a cage suspended above the bar - not nearly as seedy as it sounds (though if you wants seedy try the Yeti)
Restaurants in town: didn`t bother with - we were on half board. There was one place at the bottom of the nursery slopes - possibly called Bauersskialm (just next door to the umbrella bar) which serves excellent food. Someone also recommended Peters but I didnt make it.
Mountain restaurants all v. good - Xandlstadl on red 6a was excellent.
The journey from Salzburg to the resort is about 1.25 hours. Good roads. Easy journey.
Snow last weekend was pretty good. Got a bit chopped up in the afternoon but the groomers worked hard overnight.
Have a brilliant time. I`m very envious.

My wife and I'll be there that week as well. I think I made some drunken promise that my wife would buy a round for some snowheads (or something like that). Guess we'll need to figure out where and when. More seriously, Is there a relatively convenient way of traveling to and from Salzburg for a day trip? We won't have a car.

RISkier, i bet you're beginning to regret that drunken promise you made as it seems there might be a few snowheads there! probably all saying " i'll have a large one thanks"

You will be glad to know that prices are quite reasonable, at least by some standards. The Jaegermeister miniatures are around €2 each. You wouldn't want anything else would you? Lowest number pays locally!
