Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Looking at staying in Vaujany, how easy is it to get to the green runs at 1860? We are all very limited skiers. Also one of us will be doing ski lessons, is this easy to locate from Vaujany?

I don't think Vaujany would be ideal. It's a cable car up high and I think it's a blue run to drop to aloe d huez. Far better off staying in adh.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Vaujany is not ideal. You have to get the big gondola up. From there -
1) There is a blue (Chalets) leading down to the Montfrais area. It`s a lovely run but it would get a little tedious going up and down it. There are a couple of blues towards the bottom of Chalets but not ideal for green runners.
2) There is a short `green` (Carrelet) leading down to a drag. It`s labelled green - but it`s not. When the snow`s good it`s a blue; when the snow is poor it`s (an easy) red.
3) From the top of the Vaujany gondola, you can catch another gondola up to Dome des Petites Rousses. Two lovely reds lead off this which will take you to the top of DMC 2 lift. Belvedere is wide and forgiving - more blue than red.
If you get as far as DMC2 you can access the ADH greens by taking the Couloir run. This is a blue. First thing in the morning, when it`s empty, it`s one of the nicest runs in the resort. Later on it gets very crowded and very churned up. Carnage.
If you do make it over to the ADH greens you would probably have to take a series of lifts to get back to Vaujany (up DMC1 - down Poutran to Oz - walk through Oz - up Alpette - down Vaujany gondola).
It can be done but it`s a bit of faff.
The best green runs by far are located directly above Alpe D`Huez. As dan100 points out you would be better staying in ADH which has easy access to what are probably the best range of greens in Europe (provided there`s snow!). Better still - stay in Oz en Oisans. It`s much prettier and you access the same green slopes via the Poutran lift which also has the advantage of being queue free. Also staying in Oz means you can access the Vaujany sector.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

personally i wouldnt try if you are novice skiers, the route is quite hard and can be icy. Have you booked your accommodation, because if not, Oz en oisans is perfect as you can ski back or you can get the big cable car, which means all abilities are catered for.
