Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi guys,
Heading to Saint Martin in a couple weeks and there's a few beginners in our group.
Are there any free magic carpet or button lifts in the area that the beginners could potentially use to get their eye in before investing in a valley/3V pass?
Thanks
Chris

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Cheers @geepee
Looks like the drag lift serves the nursery slope which is good so they'll have enough space to practice.

You'll need to Register first of course.

And when they do move on there are two cheaper alternatives to the full Vallee de Belleville or 3V passes. Either just a St Martin/Les Menuires pass (i.e excluding Val Thorens/Orelle), or a "beginners" day pass, which still gives access to all the ST/LM Green and Blue pistes for €24 per day.
If in ski-school probably best to check with them on which pass you need.
(Note that the prices etc in the snowtrippin.co.uk link above look a bit out-of-date)

Yeah they looked like last years prices, but they'll be comparable.
They won't be in ski school, just need some time to get their turns nailed on a proper slope rather than the fake snow in Manchester. I'll keep an eye out for the beginner passes as they sound ideal.

@cd360, There is a small drag lift in SMB....It is on a reasonable slope, NOT FLAT...
So if they want to get their eye back in, it will be fine.
It isn;t at the main car park / gondola station... if you park in the centre it is just up from the church / Marie.
If you park at the main Gondola you can walk thro' into the main end of piste area, walk up towards the tunnel at the top of the hill & as you pass the end of the buildings on the left, the piste cuts to the left, about where the kids Poo poo area is (the little play area for tiny tots)...
It is free, but they will soon want to get going...
If they are planning to ski with the SMB & Les Mingers pass then it would be better to jump on the Gondola (SMB 1) & ski back. It is a real easy link / piste back down for the first few km...It is a blue run all the way.
The first 3/4 to 1km is flat as a pancake.
It only really gets harder as you drop down to the tunnel (say 300 to 400 yards), to go under the main road as you enter SMB, but by that time they will be ok, if they have skid before.
The tunnel can get icy. The last drop before the tunnel (say 300 to 400 yards) has 2 elbow options, to take the worst out...At the top carry straight on (piste drops off to the left towards the tunnel) and you go down a shorter, less steep elbow to rejoin piste lower down.... Then half way down that drop just as you see the tunnel there is another elbow off to the right into trees, this then rejoins the piste at the tunnel, lining you up - so you can easily look up piste to check for on coming skiers as you duck into the tunnel...

Oh, If in SMB there is a really nice bar, often with live music, the "Piano bar", behind the church, if you walk down from the on street parking past the entrance to the church, down in the centre.
Just opposite the piano bar is a great resturaunt (on the right as you walk past the church main door - on the left is the piano bar) , run by locals.
Twinner in SMB are ok to hire skis from (especially if you book on line ahead).
