Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamonix's pre-Olympic showdown this weekend: news, comment, results

The World Cup downhillers and slalom racers are in Chamonix for this weekend's 'dress rehearsal' for the Turin Winter Olympics. The Games commence on the slopes of Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx (and others) on 10 February.

Chamonix has special significance in the history and heritage of Olympic skiing, as it was the venue of the first-ever Winter Olympics in 1924. The downhill this weekend will therefore have great resonance.

A training run took place today Wednesday. This report from SkiRacing.com.
Warm weather had led to the cancellation of the intended training run on Tuesday. FIS race officials had been concerned that the soft course would be damaged.

If you want to read all about this weekend's events, here's the official website: http://www.chamonixworldcup.com

Results of training runs and actual races can be tracked on www.fis-ski.com

Mysnowsports.com has a preview of the Chamonix races:

From a British perspective it looks to be an interesting downhill, because there's a new kid on the block: Roger Cruickshank is in Chamonix as a new (or rather revived, after injury) member of the British Team, alongside Finlay Mickel.

Finlay Mickel was 21st in training today. Cruickshank 54th.

Full results of that run here:

Roger Cruickshank writes a personal piece for Sporting Life here.
