Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snow conditions Chandolin Switzerland?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Anyone know what the snows like in chandolin Switzerland?

got a chance to go for a couple of days but it will be quite awkward to get there and quite pricy just for 2 days but if theyve got the mega snow that seems to be around it could be worth it.

I saw Adelboden on ski sunday and the snow looked terrible, is it only good high up at the mo?

As youd imagine Im looking for POW so if its not there Ill save my money and go somwhere else in a week or so instead

We've just stopped for lunch in our motorhome above Lausanne en route for Val d'Anniviers so will follow replies with interest. We have the MagicPass and arrived at a small resort in the Jura last night with the intention of a few undemanding warm-up days. The pistes this morning, however, were glazed cordrouy and you could hear one of the few skiers coming from halfway down. Not a good first day of the season on a board!

I never liked the ice on a board, only 1 edge to grip or not. Not saying that I love it on skis but definitely better.

Is Val d'Anniviers close by? My geography is terrible. If so please let me know what its like so I can decide whether to book tickets or not.

Thanks

@medlington, Chandolin connects to St Luc around the Illhorn. Snow stays in good condition on the runs on the north facing side but you don't want Chandolin for powder runs - you want Nax....DON'T TELL ANYONE....

damn I've done it now.

powder - fabulous in the trees to the right of the tiny chair which takes you up from the car park.

You'll need a car, or get the Postbus up from Sion. The riding there is just great.

Nax is perched between Val D'Herens (to the SE) and Val D'Anniviers (to the NE) see:

@medlington, snow is great. It snowed a lot last night. of the 3 high lifts (all drags) none open today until 1 opened in St. Luc late afternoon. Much blasting and piste bashing going on up high through the afternoon so hopefully most everything open tomorrow.

@medlington, you might want to take a look at this thread; http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=130665#3164424. I can verify what ChrisJersey says about today's conditions, tomorrow when all the lifts up high open should be amazing.
Ps. This is not based on Chinese or any other type of whispers.

Its in Switzerland, knowing nothing about the geography of Switzerland I thought it could be close, hence why I asked.

@medlington, ah.

You were worried were you not by the pictures during the slalom? Of the wrong side of the mountain, down the valley. Camera angles, eh? Deceiving.

It's actually only about 25kms away in a straight line but there are mountains in the way, so weather and precip can be quite different from the Valais.

MeteoSwiss - If you want to monitor weather and snowfalls etc then this Swiss Weather Bureau app is good - most other apps are using MeteoSwiss data anyway, so this is the source material. As with the UK MetOffice app, you can put in your own locations. The app also allows you to set levels for weather warnings of snow, avalanche, winds etc. individually. The animated forecast is good at giving you an idea of the broader weather that's on its way.
