Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Schools - Chamonix

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello - I'm a single parent skier (taking my 8 year old for her 4th trip) and am looking to book around three-four private lessons for her and two other girls in Chamonix for Feb half-term. The other parent wants to take them to Evolution2 (Les Montets) but I think it might be a hassle to get to from where I'm staying which is just off Route de Pelerins. However, I've not been to Chamonix before so I don't know how the town works. What would seasoned Chamonix goers recommend?

You can't go wrong with BASS Chamonix if there's mid-term availability. The ski buses pass through Avenue de Courmayeurs, so you can basically go to any of the ski areas, however it may be that Les Houches just down the valley would suit the youngsters best, if need be suggest book lessons with the ESF there, or at Brevent/Flegere, which is directly behind Chamonix centre. If you're going by bus then expect the Les Grands Montets trip to be 'busy' ...

This being the internet, you'll get a bunch of views that vary somewhat. Personally I wouldn't go near BASS based on my experience of discussing lessons for my kids some years ago. I find ESF have been fantastic for private lessons.

If you are ok with lessons from 2-4.30 pm then pm me for the details of the instructor that I've used for my kids for the past 3 years who is brilliant (French but great English, kids of his own, English wife). He's not available the rest of the time as I have him booked! That will require lessons at Grands Montets (i.e. Argentiere) tho.

If they are confident red slope skiers then Grands Montets is the best skiing in Chamonix. Nothing green out there though..... Les Houches has something for all levels. You tend to spend all day in one of the main centres, GM, Les H, Brev/Flegere or Le Tour, the last being particularly suited to blue/red skiers.
Hope you enjoy trip.

@Hercules2016,

- Which end of rte des Pelerins? Makes a difference...(It's a long street) - bus details here http://www.chamonix.fr/documents/deplacements_urbanisme_logement/transports/pdf/horaires_bus_hiver_2016_2017.pdf

Grands Montets will be a 25 minute bus ride away.

For private lessons and convenience, ESF at Brevent might be better.

Les Houches at least as inconvenient as Grands Montets.

All of which modified if you have a car...

If you are booking private lessons, you shouldn't be limited by area - I've booked Evo2 for people before to ski at Le Tour, Brevent, Flegere, and I've seen them around on Les Houches and GM too of course.

Phone the ski school of your choice, and tell them the area of your choice for private lessons.
