Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Self-Heating Clothing

Hi All,

Just noticed that Maplin (the electronics firm) have started selling a self-heating vest (see link below).

It's not too expensive, but could be a case of 'get what you pay for' (I'm not particularly attracted to the gloves they are selling as well).

If anyone has one, or gets one and tries one... what's it like? Indeed has anyone got any feelings about this sort of stuff in general. I remember watching a Discovery Channel documentary about human reaction to cold. The conclusion of the scientific (?) experiment was that as long as your core is hot enough, you don't actually need much protection for your extremities. I understand the physiology, but was wondering if people tried this in practise (on the slopes).

damburton, I shall order the gloves to use as inner gloves and see what's what. the site is a bit confusing if you want to order stuff and also if you want the rechargeable batteries. Not sure about the waistcoat, but they don't have any stock anyway, and 28 days is probably long after the need!!!

I have battery operated boot heaters in place now and they're great. What a difference! Very Happy Very Happy
