hannah29, there's these in Venosc which give cablecar access to Les Deux Alpes for skiing in either summer or winter.

hannah, I've a feeling Masque raised this exact topic a while back and got some tips, but I've forgotten the title of the thread.
Come in, Masque.

hannah29, Luck boogers, I'm about 4 months behind on my plans You'll find camper sites near all the major French and Austrian resorts. I've got some planned out, where are you heading or are you freewheeling?
I assume you already have Le Guide officiel étapes touristiques camping-car and Der große Reisemobil-Stellplatz-Atlas, Deutschland, Nordband / Südband (also covers Austria) These also tell you which are open in the winter. You can 'wild' camp in lots of resorts but there'll be no services so you should carry a generator (with 12v charging) to boil your kettle and keep the batteries topped up and you might think of a second or third leisure battery. Your heater eats juice.
edit: Generators get nicked very quickly, so have/get one that can have a BIG motorcycle lock fitted and chain it to your axle.

Can anyone explain the pricing? I've looked at several sites (planning on taking a tent!!) and there seems to be a price for a tent and a price for a person. Do you add these together, or does a tent price automatically include a person??

Elizabeth B, I've seen them do it both ways. Sorry, that's no help is it. Usually I have found that it is tent + car + people all separate.

Elizabeth B, Normally one person is included in the tent (in winter ) price and then each additional person is added. With a camper, it's inclusive of two people and there's a small discount for singles. There are extra charges for a trailer or towed vehicle and more if you want a wide pitch for a safari room.

Masque, the plan is for April. I'm confident of a good night's sleep as long as it stays above -10C...haven't tried lower than that!!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Elizabeth B, You're a better man than I Gunga B. 25 years ago I wasn't too worried about it but I'm too old and crumbly to contemplate that level of endurance. But with a good site and power, I guess it's very practical. THere are three very nice sute in and near BSM and the Champ Du Moulin is great (stayed there years ago) and has a lift up L2A 200M away.

Know someone who travelled all the way from England to a ski camp site in Austria only to find out it was cheaper to book into a local B&B than pay the camping fees.
