It's on. Landed at lunchtime to cold still conditions and bright sun. Quick trip to the supermarket to buy Kvikk Lunjs, get changed, out of the door just after 3pm, 200m walk down the road, 500m skin up, then this...

It wasn't all fun: there was a bit of a walk to get in. Not too distressing given it was 200m from our rorbu to the skin track.

Just to confirm we skied untracked powder in the sun next to the sea, it didn't rain, we could see more than 20 feet and we didn't get blown off the mountain. On day 1. Epic.

After dragging our asses away from the northern lights, morning happened and in a very unusual fashion it was still, cold and sunny. Again. Here's our home for the week.

offpisteskiing had a plan that involved somewhere no one really goes to get away from the 'crowds' (2 or 3 other teams here at the Lofoten Ski Lodge). Started with a classic park-by-road-and-skin ascent.

I think the team were suitably impressed with some well-judged product placement. Our line is behind the team on the north face out of the sun (and out of the picture). Nowhere on earth is an ascent rewarded with a view like you get here.

I didn't get many photos of us slaying 600m of perfect 20 to 30 deg freeride pow turns...because we were too busy slaying freer...you get the picture. Nice of a fog bow and a sea eagle (tiny in the right of the pic) to put in an appearance.

That's all for now. Don't expect too much tomorrow or Tues as we have a wild storm predicted which is sadly bringing wind and rain.

...and so we come to today. There's a lot of good news, despite the weather. Firstly, we got out for a couple of hours for a 300m tour in the valley behind the lodge. Here's the team skinning into the entrance.
More good news is that I now know which bits of my kit leak: left knee, right knee, elbows, thumbs, shoulders and groin. Bad news is I may need to buy new kit. Good news is I get to buy new kit!
This afternoon will be spent exploring the local culture. Classic Lofoten.

@Sharkymark, mmm soggy. I know this feeling, which is why I had a new jacket and gloves. What are the temps like up there? I've skied in Norway at Easter a couple of times and it was fairly warm in the daytime, but much further south than where you are.

@Scarlet, the Lofoten Islands have the largest temperature differential between theoretical (based on latitude) and actual of anywhere on earth. This is due to the gulf stream so it's much warmer than you'd think. Typically at this time of year it's around freezing (or just above) at sea level. Today it's nearer 5 deg.C as there's a SW storm blowing. Hence the rain.
This is now the wettest day any of us have experienced up here. Tomorrow looks the same but Weds looks to brighten up considerably and cool down.

O wow ...... The previous thread inspired me to sail the Lofotens at mid summer. Magic, despite never getting more than a few hundred metres above sea level.
Stunning (a much overused word but apt here) photos and splendid laconic descriptions.
