Poster: A snowHead

Heading to Hochgurgl at end of January. We are two basic intermediates and would love to hear from anyone who has skied the area in the last few years - any tips about weather, runs , resort, lifts, restaurants, adjacent resorts gratefully received.
Thanks
Timmy

You'll love it - intermediate heaven. Classy place, great motorway skiing above Hochgurgl. Head over to Obergurgl for garlic soup at lunchtime in David's Hut - yummy

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Great place, excellent snow making facilities if natural snow is poor, lots of nice hotels and restaurants, and not too busy. We went to Obergurgl at Xmas 2015 and had a great time.

Great resort for Intermediates and some great Huts for lunch. Our ski pass gave us a day in Solden which is about 15 minutes down the road and worth the trip.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

David's Hutte's specialty is the spare ribs. The full size is plenty for a hungry big man (like me....) - order the half size if you're not sure.
You can ski one day in Solden - but you must ask for the combined lift pass in advance: The common Obergurgl-Hochgurgl / Sölden ski pass must be explicitly ordered at the ski pass office on your first day. It is not possible to prolong or to change an already purchased ski pass afterwards.

Skiing from the top if Hochgurgle right down to the bottom near the road, have a hot chocolate with rhum in the portable bar at the bottom of red 25.., return to the top and repeat ... Good fun..
And as michaelr says the ribs in garlic at davids hut in Obergurgle are great... Its all easy skiing, even the reds are more blue, although many of the runs at top of Hochgurgle are in effect one large wide piste.. the runs at the far end of Hochgurgle where the kirchenkarlift lift is can be tedious as its very slow.. there is a run than goes down between Oburgurgle and Hochgurgle, i think its number 32... avoid it ...as theres only a T bar out from the bottom and it can be a pain to get back up. A decent slier will do every run in a day but its still worth it.
In solden on the run down try to have a drink in the Barrel !!! Its a bar on your left on the run down.. Very novel ..

@yorkshirelad, the old Kirchenkar T-bar has now been replaced by a gondola.

Interesting - thanks. Is there a bus to Sölden or do you need a car? (We won't have one.)

@maggi, you take the Obergurgl - Imst bus to get to Solden, the times are shown at the bus stops. You have to pay but it's not much and IIRC, it's about €10 for the one day at Solden option to be added to your lift pass.

Easy skiing; lots of crusing, mostly on wide uncrowded pistes. Only narrow one is red 1 from top of Hohe Mutt
Nothing much below the trees - the run down to Untergurgl in the trees is good, but is the lowest point and south facing so can be soft. Go right to the top at the Mountain Star restaurant and do the run to the bottom in one... about 1500m drop.
A little bit more below tree line on Steinmann lift in Obergurgl - fantastic for a few early morning charges (though lifts don't open until 9).
40% of skiing is in Obergurgl, 60% in Hochgurgl by my estimate - you'll probably be taking the Top EXpress between the two most days
NO lift queues - almost all gondolas or fast chairs. Few boarders, few mad people.
