Anyone know whether I can buy piste markers (specifically for La Face at Val) from anywhere? I'd like one for a Christmas present for a friend. Seems an obvious (albeit niche) product, but I can't track them down.
Cheers all

The piste markers that I see in France are supplied by one of several companies based around Albertville, try asking Secomate or MBS-ADIC.

If you forgot to steal one as you went past, you could (I presume) just buy a small piece of plywood, cut a circle, paint it the appropriate colour and paint on the appropriate name/number? Or is there something different?

I saw these on sale for the first time in Avoriaz in January, so someone must be making them and they'd be missing a trick if they don't do them for other resorts. I think they'd make a great gift, but I can't find anyone selling them on the web..

northernsoulboy, I've seen them in Les Gets (they can be silly money) and bought/ordered one for a special birthday for OH with a significant piste and number on it.
This is the shop I got it from

Very nice owner, excellent English if that helps

For our wedding in September we are using them as table centres. With a little bit of ICT magic we have all the main pistes from Val d'Isere that we are calling our tables at the wedding by and then just alter the number in the middle to correspond to the table number. Easy to make up and as someone else said just print double sided at somewhere like Staples on double sided foam board, cut out and whack on a long piece of scaffolding metal or curtain pole wooden beam and you have your own DIY own cheapo!

livetoski, just tried to upload picture for you but having trouble with pc which is about to be condemned I think they were about €70. It's done in the old style, slightly weathered/distressed look which I like.

marmotte16, whoops sorry about double post, New phone, thanks for links, after doing a bit of googling proper piste markers are alu and a certain size, it maybe possible to reproduce here in UK at a good price and bespoke to resort and run. Plus I would love to do avalanche signs, cliffs and crevasses stuff would look great in study or smallest room in house.

marmotte16, Shimmy Alcott, thanks guys, quick question? So for piste marker as a gift are you thinking like me that a wooden reproduction would be the best option? Adds a bit of character and maybe looks better in the home/office than an aluminum one?
cheers

livetoski, I thought I had already posted this, but can't see it. Sunshine Village do the rectangular Alu ones - I've got Black Diamond 92 with a slightly tweaked piste name (in-joke). I like the Alu one as it's the same as on the piste, but for European I'd be happy with wood or alu circles. I think I paid about $25 10 years ago.

livetoski, I am very pleased with the wood as it looks good up on the wall but it was expensive imo (but then it is my favourite piste, favourite resort, the number is significant too and I was able to custom order).
Love Steve Angus ideas above for his wedding.

First of all, thanks for all the replies.
Second, livetoski - 7 would be good... if you're offering it my way as a token for inspiring you I won't say no...
Alternatively, and perhaps more realistically, PM me with a photo and a price once it's done?

Well its taken a little while, but the first samples have been done, however the people doing for me applied a "worn" finish to them which I sort of preferred a nice new look.
Any feedback most welcome, I thought about doing a white boarder around the outside edge of the sign as well?

Price? P+P? Size? Colours?

They will be as follows:
Size 30 cm £22.50
Size 46cm £39.50 (These are the actual size of real piste signs)
Colours Blue, Red, Black
P&P £3.99 free if orders over £100
We can put anything on them, all hand painted and on wood backing, made in the UK by a small company I found.
Pics are antique finish i.e. sanded a little to age them, I did not really ask for them like this, I thought nice new looking would be better, but if you want antique thats fine.
They should be live on my web site to order by the end of the week, delivery time approx 5 to 7 working days.

agree - no white boarder would be best.
As much as I like them and am planning on using something similar as table centre for our wedding.... buying about 15 of them would soon mount up in price therefore I am afraid I am just going for a a printed version (designed my own in Photoshop) and have printed onto double backed foam cardboard - a little cheaper way of doing things.
However I think they look great and understand that being hand made etc are a very good price.... good luck with them!

wigan, at the bottom of the piste marker page there is a drop down button to select new finish or weathered finish, I only have the pics of the weathered looking ones at the moment, the others should be up by this weekend. Adding the two options was a last minute thing so have to update the text as well.
Steve Angus, yep weddings are expensive my daughter is getting married in Aug, funny thing is they are using old records as table markers.
Give me a shout about what you want on the wedding ones, if they are all pretty similar and there is 15 I can do a better price for you
