Snowed down to 1900m last night. Snow line due to drop to 800m tonight. They've had the cannons on above Ruinettes for the last few days, so hopefully this new snow has something to stick to. Seems like a fair chance Lacs de Vaux could be open next weekend and maybe the runs to Ruinettes.

Went for an explore above Carrefour, about 20cm of lovely light fluffy stuff. Will be more higher up.

For once the snow has arrived before the snowplough invoice for our road ! Looking forward to a good skinning weekend on the 3rd if it doesn't all melt by then. Doubt Thyon side will open till the week after but hope the new lift is finished ??

Thanks for posting the clip. Was it busy?
I went a couple of years ago this early and queued for close to an hour to get a ticket at Le Chable due to the crowds and also lots of people getting their season passes, which took an age.

You know it makes sense.

Wasn't busy at all. A few queues at ruinettes. There was a bit of a delay at le chable getting the passes, but we were there early enough. No mountain restaurants open, so skiied back to town for lunch. Was lovely lower down the mountain as well, but had to be a bit careful what with rocks, streams, roads and what not. ..

Absolutely stunning conditions yesterday. Snowed until midday, then brightened up and about 30cm of lovely, light fresh stuff lying everywhere.
All the open pistes were in great condition, no bare patches or ice. Good coverage all the way to Mayentzet (which isn't open yet). Gets a bit patchy on the last couple of bends to Medran, but doable.

Excellent conditions all round on the pistes. Mont Fort skiing nicely, although they have blown some huge avalanches on the sides which have gone right back to the glacial blue ice. Nothing open below Ruinettes. Lots of snowmaking going on.
Somewhat crowded on Saturday as a consequence of the "ski free if you're dressed as Santa Claus" initiative. They did manage to set a new world record for 1200 Santas on skis at 1530 at Chalet Carlsberg. Quite a sight.

I've got flights to Geneva booked 17th December to 20th December. Original plan was one of the resorts around 1hr away in France (Cham, PdS or Grand Massif), however, looks like it's not going to snow until we fly (at best!).
So now looking at other options within 2hrs that offer decent priced shared transfers.
How's Verbier looking if it didn't snow until we get there in 10 days? Seems to have a lot of snow already, high village level, skiing mainly over 2000m etc.
Any other suggestions greatly received as well...
Cheers

@Badbobby, assuming nothing extraordinary happens you should be fine in Verbier, there is now snowmaking from 3,000m all the way to the village. By that date they may have opened the Mayenzet lift allowing skiing down to c1850m and a bus back to town as an alternative to downloading. Itineraries will be unskiable by then, but the pistes should stay in pretty good condition.

Thanks for the reply. Looking a lot more expensive than Courmayeur, which seems to have a bit of cover.

Pistes ok in Thyon sector even down to Veysonnaz due to good snow management and creation. Piste de L'Ours not open yet so couldn't try the new lift this weekend. Better than last Xmas but no off piste and looks like no new snow for a while. Pleasant day for 750 m up hill though. Was going to come roud to Verbier side to skin up from Ruinettes to L de V but up to Etherolla was enough.

This was the upper part of Verbier's Savoleyres sector, on the La Tzoumaz side Sunday (11.12.16) morning:
Good upper slopes, although thin, but no effective snow cover below about 1700m. this is north-facing but southern (Tournelle) side was similar and holding up well. Off-piste was not really viable.

Don't tell anyone, but conditions are surprisingly good. Téléverbier have worked extremely hard at making the most of what snow there is. They have made snow all the way down to Medran which is quite remarkable. It's also been reasonably quiet, although I fear that might be just about to change....

Hmmm, much more crowded in the Verbier sector yesterday. Headed across the 4 valleys and all the links are in good condition and some really nice piste skiing in Thyon and on Combatseline.

@Rungsp Ha ha - at least driving conditions will be good! Snow similar but temps lower (which is at least something). Hope to catch up at some point over the next few days.
Sharp edges at a premium in the afternoon. Either that or uber fat skis to max out the power slide.

Busy out there today, I saw quite a few nasty prangs. I can only think that the New Year holidays started earlier this year because of when Christmas etc fell.
