Anyone any idea when the first cheap week in January 2017 will be? As Christmas eve and new year’s eve both fall on the Saturday change over days it’s not as clear cut this season (well to me anyway) when the two stupidly expensive holiday weeks will be.
According to this
https://www.schoolholidayseurope.eu/england.html
most schools (mine kids included) go back on the 2/3rd January so I don’t think the week 31st Dec to 7th Jan can’t be a premium week? Can it ?? Are people going to be paying top money to then have to travel on Christmas eve and new year’s eve ??
I think chalet owners may swap to a Sunday to Sunday for the two weeks and have the first cheap week in January as a short 6 day week to get back to the normal Saturday to Saturday. In which case Sunday 1st (or maybe even Monday 2nd) to Saturday 7th should be cheap, I’m hoping it is as I can sneek in an cheeky extra week then, as I can carry over my spare 2016 holidays into the first week of 2017
Any one got any thoughts on this
Phil

Have a play with some quotes on TO websites. Should give you a pretty clear idea.

Because of teh limitations of flight allocation I suspect the big operators e.g. http://www.monarch.co.uk/ will still be running Saturday-Saturday. Which is what it looks like.
Xmas week is never as busy as New Year's Week. Flying in on NY eve not a great hardship, just might mean day 1 on the snow is a little, err, shaky.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I will guess that Christmas week will be more expensive than New Year this year given that most schools will go back during New Year week.
However I expect New Year will be fairly pricey too as plenty of people without children choose to ski New Year week. Therefore I suspect Little Martin is correct that 7th Jan will be the first cheap week.

Too right - a New Years ski holiday without schoolkids all over the place? Awesome!
To the OP's question - yep I think the 7th is likely to be the cheapest, and the 14th pretty close too.

Interestingly Monarch cheaper 24.12-31.12 than 31.12-07.01

Some are operating Tues-Tues with a short Tues-Sat break after the New Year.
@under a new name, not surprising that Christmas is cheaper than New Year.

@under a new name, possibly in that case because there will be less families booking for New Year.

@qwertyuiop7, Why not go for the 14th Jan to be on the safe side, as I know that some schools are going back on the 9th. The second week in January is always quiet with us....one of my favourite weeks.

January 7th is the Christmas for the Orthodox church (mainly Russia) so busier than the 14th

The location of peak weeks are very different this year, at least in Hinterglemm.
This year we arrived on the 27th Feb and it was a cheap 'A' week, next year it is a very expensive 'D' week due to Austrian, German and Dutch holidays. The next 'A' week is a full 2 weeks later. We then tried for 7th Jan and that isn't an 'A' week either for some reason. Booked for the 14th Jan - the first 'A' week after Christmas. V complicated and not published as an easy to understand list on the hotels website (took quite a few emails to work out - 'can we have a quote for 'x' week please', repeat until you understand the pricing..... )
In conclusion, 14th Jan is a cheap week as is w/c 21st. Flights cheaper too, judging on London to Salzburg on BA.
