Hi,

I'm new to the forum so be nice! I'm looking to get my first pair of ladies skis. I'm a beginner/intermediate. I can parallel turn on blues easily and starting to master reds. My partner and I go to Scotland every now and again and everytime we go it's £30 for hire for me whilst he uses his own pair. I'm having a look in the sales currently and considering to buy a pair for weekend use and to take abroad.
I'll be sticking to pistes but sometimes in Scotland (if we're lucky) we get a bit of powder and ungroomed areas to play on so need to think about this.
I'm 5ft 4 and about 12.8 stone - with that in mind I'll be looking for something between 156-161cm (but open to suggestions). I've been looking at some Rossi's but I have no idea if they would be any good and also been looking at used pairs as generally I'm not looking to pay an arm and leg for my first pair. I'm not looking to be the fastest on the slope but am looking for a pair that could grow with me as I improve.

Anyone have any thoughts on the below pairs? Other suggestions are welcome.

Should I be tempted by used pairs for £80 for this or stick with new?

I don't have much personal experience of girls' skis specifically but buying 2nd hand kit can go either way. Enough people are tempted [repeatedly] by shiny things that their cast offs can be virtually new/unused. OTOH, if a shop is dumping its ex-hire kit on Ebay, some of it may be absolutely on its last legs.
I buy via Ebay quite often but it's a very impersonal mechanism and if something's not said specifically in the description, it's not safe to assume it.
It may be worth keeping an eye on the Buy/Sell forum as bargains often crop up there and we like to think snowHeads are a better class of wheeler dealers Wink http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewforum.php?f=6

@ness991, I waited until I was well past the beginner stage before buying my own skis, but I understand your reasoning if you'll be using them regularly in Scotland. I think second hand is probably a good plan, as you may well outgrow them quickly, or find that your skiing takes a different direction. If you can find something in good condition for a good price, you may be able to sell them on again in a couple of years for not too big a loss, or use them as rock skis until they die.

I'd say it's worth a punt - four trips to Scotland = money saved.

Thanks all for the help - sadly the used pair I was after went for over £100+p&p. My local ski shop recommended the Head Pure Joy so at least I have another pair to look out for Smile
