anyone skid Transfargasaren in Romania?
Just went there on a summer holiday and noticed a few snow cannons, couldnt for the life of me figure out where the runs are but having done a little googling have found there are 2 runs there. Just wondering if its worth a weekend trip, sounds like it could be either a hidden gem of an offpiste style resort or a complete waste of time.

I believe the 4th one down is the Transfagaras highway:

I wanted to give it a go but Mrs A baulked so we cycled from Brasov to Ploiesti along the DN1 thru Sinaia instead. Part of a 1200 mile tour of Romainia some 30-odd years ago. On a subsequent visit we were driven over it - don't remember any ski slopes though.

Drove over 3 weeks ago. No sign of any ski runs. Cable car runs from Balea Cascada to Balea Lake. I understand the road is closed from November to May so they do expect considerable amounts of snow I think they also go in for one of those ice hotels up at the lake. May be possible to ski down the line of the road but it is well graded and there are probably stretches with insufficient gradient to ski. The same would I think apply to off piste, Some good steep sections but probably also a lot on the level. Not sure what the purpose of the cable car is. Probably built before the road to access the mountains. Why not e-mail one of the hotels there asking what goes on in the winter.

cheers,
They dont look the most competent bunch do they?
When I was there I just couldnt figure out where the run could be as over 3/4 of the way to the cable car is thick tree lined cliffs. We went to the bottom of the cable car so I recognise that bit.
From that vid it doesnt look worth it, I was hoping for untouched meter deep pow but looks more like inches deep and quite busy.

I'm sure there's sarcasm in your post but have you ever done an offpiste Chinese downhill race on a couple of inches of fresh over an ice base?
