Poster: A snowHead

Hi
I need to get off piste even if its just off the side without a guide but not keen to do on my own!
Can get away from 8th Feb for a few days. Any suggestions?
Would prefer somewhere easy to get to!

@sally365, what's your general ski level? UCPA centres in France do some off piste lessons for beginners. As well as some weeks for real gnarly experts. You can look at details on the Action Outdoors website.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hi Thanks for your quick reply.
Scgb purple + if that means anything. Been doing it for years but just got back from Zermatt where the rock hopping got to me and I was on the back of my skis unable to turn them. Freaked out I guess or just getting old. So mileage is what I need. S

@sally365, Kuhtai has a bunch of easy to find, short, fairly mellow, ungroomed slopes right next to and in between pistes. Not the most lively resort, but easy to get to from Innsbruck.
Not my photo, but this illustrates what I mean (and there's a lot more like that on both sides of the valley):
Go after easter (village is at 2020m) and it will be very quiet, and snow will remain untracked for longer than a lot of places. Could be ideal.
Edit: Sorry, misunderstood your post. I thought you meant somewhere where you could do it alone without a guide.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I shall do it again and recommend tdc (www.tdcski.com). I learnt off-piste with them. They are in Espace Killy and Trois Vallees.

@Weathercam, I think just the first 2-3 days, but I'll be staying in Innsbruck and driving up each day. Looking forward to it!

I've had a couple of offpiste intro sessions this week and was wondering best way/place/time to get powder practice? I know offpiste isn't always about deep powder, but its the holy grail, right? Between the two sessions there was a lot of snowfall, so the second session was my first proper experience of deep(ish) snow. Which to me means its a gamble/luck to get the right conditions to practice? Im a fairly late starter at skiing, with 7-8 weeks experience. Felt great when I got the up and down motion right. But felt like a complete novice again trying to keep control on narrow paths between trees, and falling over in slow motion losing balance at standstill (on the piste you can just move your ski, but here it was in a foot of snow). Keen to do more and improve...
