Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Womens Impact Shorts

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

Newbie here. And from the dark side!

After a pretty hard landing a couple weeks back, I'm thinking about getting some Impact Shorts to help protect my rear end. Landed right on my coxis and had painful hip for a fortnight after. I am a fridge rider at the moment, still learning, so no soft powder landings just yet. ha ha

Any girlies have any advice or recommendations of decent full bottom padding at not too expensive prices. I've seen some Demon Flex Force on Absolute Snow that look to have a fair amount of padding on them compared to others. Anyone use these?

Thanks

Clare

Demon shorts are what my snowboarding daughter uses and she likes them.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

My wife wears Dainese shorts and likes them.

@Clarey, welcome to Snowheads. snowHead

I had Dainese shorts, and they were fine. However, don't assume that they will necessarily stop you from landing on your coccyx. If you land right on your back, fine. But if you just kind of "sit down", bent at the hips, you can still slam your coccyx.

Thanks very much for the replies. I'll take a look at Dainese too.

Thanks Pam, yeah always a chance of still landing on it. Just hoping these might help take some of the pain away. Very Happy

If you're looking at Dainese shorts then there's two versions, one with soft armour (really just padding) & the other with hard plastic protection, inc the coccyx protector. Get the hard version as it really does spread the load/impact etc.

@Clarey, Mrs cad wears Dainese impact shorts with the hard plastic protection. No complaints in ten years.

This. According to my wife they also keep her warm on long chairlifts...

 snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

I very quickly invested in a set of these when I turned "grey"
I haven't found any set that covers all places (i.e. simple wrap around): and snowboarding will very quickly find each and every little place where you haven't padded it well enough.
I got the Wedze (Decathlon) impact shorts to start with (£25 and quite non-bulky) and then got some bits of roll mat and stuffed 'em wherever I wanted extra protection and it wasn't there. Seem to take a good proportion of the impact: but I don't think you'll ever get rid of it! Best incentive to develop your skills quickly... Laughing I'm currently in the amrket for a cheapy second hand set to cut up and sew on in places where I feel it's still lacking (which includes coccyx and lower back for me, but I've got a big bum and long back).
Don't forget the knee pads too!!!
If you want a full back protector then there's loads of hard shell types about, though persnally I prefer softer hard foam for piste (or a well-packed rucksac!). Very Happy

At least in snowboarding you get to spend loads of time sitting icing the places where you might develop the bruising.... Toofy Grin
