Looking for a bit of advice... My wife has a relatively unused pair of Lange ladies' boots. They have always been too big for her, as they were badly fitted when she bought them half a dozen years ago. They probably have three weeks' skiing in them.
My 12 year old now has bigger feet than his Mum. And he tried the boots on last week. They fit him, both boot length and in terms of getting no heel lift (the main issue for my wife when she used them). So my question is, being adult boots, will they be too stiff for him?
I have seen boots advertised as kids boots at that size (25.5) and also adult boots. What's the difference?
He is not big for his age (5'1"), and definitely not heavy (7 stone), but a keen sportsman, so fit and strong. He's just about to do his third week on skis (in bronze star ESF) and I don't want to hinder him on those first couple of days back on snow.
It's no big issue, as we can always hire, but the thought of getting at least one more week's wear from them is quite appealing. And, like most of us, the prospect of having his 'own' gear appeals to him enormously.

@rainman, key question is how stiff are they? It should say somewhere on them. I.e. 90, 100, 110, 120...

Be warned that kid's boots and bindings are a different size and shape to adult's. I've put a picture on here somewhere but I can't find it at the moment.

I was warned not to put my daughter into adult boots too early, can't remember the exact reason, I don't think it's as much of an issue for boys though. I would think though that his calves wouldn't fit properly into women's boots.

At 12 my son had bigger feet than me and he sounds a lot like your lad.
We had no choice but to put him in adults boots and he lived despite the odd tumble.

@clarky999, will check that tonight. Something in the back of my mind thinks they are an 80 flex.
@altis, the implication being that he'd also need to hire adult skis to fit them? The hire company has kids/ youth/ adult options - he falls into the youth bracket, but I'm always slightly wary of hire shops' ski classification as in my experience they just give you what they have!
@Claude B, they seem snug enough around the calf. Will check them again tonight. That was one of my fears.

Around 11/12 I skied in my Mum's boots.
Hasn't hurt me.
Except for the abuse about the furry tops and pink sparkly bits.
Probably put my fetish meter out of whack.

@under a new name, thankfully, my missus went for the Milk Tray Woman look, so the boots are all black. Not sure he'd be quite so keen otherwise!

My daughter used adult boots in December, she is 10, but tall, she much prefered the feel and the look. Standard rental boots, so 70 flex, I would guess.
