Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Risoul or le Corbier?

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi!
First ever post so apologies for any glaring errors.....!
We have been offered a fantastic deal for a weeks skiing in either Risoul or Le Corbier at Easter (2nd April). We are a family of 4 (kids 12 & 10 - competent skiers). We love skiing together as a family, nothing too taxing (reds and blues).
Both resorts look good but am concerned about snow that late in season. Risoul looks higher and more snowsure but would appreciate any advice/tips.
Which would you go for as the safest bet?!
Thank you in advance.

I went on an easter trip to Le Corbier - college trip way back in the mid 80s, there was snow, but I do remember it being quite warm and sunny. The main memory was how goppingly ugly the main hotel blocks were. If it's the chocolate box alpine experience you're after, look elsewhere. I've not been to Risoul so can't compare really.

Thank you - Having been to les menuires twice, I'm not overly fussed about concrete blocks! It's more the snow I'm bothered by.

@HelwyrBoo, hope if you do go to either of these places you write up a short report of your experience.

I THINK I know which TO you are thinking of going with, and I to mulled over this offer.

Hope it works out for you

(The reason we didn't book it, is that I could not find enough out on the resorts)

Good luck snowHead

@HelwyrBoo, welcome to snowHead . Risoul seems to hold its snow reasonably well (iglu ski snow record shows reasonable amounts of snow in April). It's a great little resort with some lovely blues and reds. Homme de Pierre sector (on the right of the piste map) is particularly nice.

For a little TR, see

Went with Rocketski (Equityski) to Risoul over Christmas and despite a lack of snow it was a great week and stunning value.

Determined to go back to Risoul at some point as it is a beautiful ski area.

@HelwyrBoo, forgot to add. Risoul is a great resort for families. Definitely a resort I'd go back to.

Been to both Resorts.

Corbier is nice but when went 3 years ago (may have changed) the links to the other ski area's where terrible & really slow.

Risoul was good as well from what I remember (it was quite a few years ago) & the ski area's are better linked. I seem to remember you've get 2 resorts for the price of 1 - Risoul on one side of the mountain & Vars on the other.

We stayed at Corbier with Rocketski. What you need to bear in mind is that the hotels are used by groups of school kids throughout the year so may look a bit worn & rustic at the end of the season.

And you've not got to mind large groups of kids loafing about, making a row and playing pool....if you are going to be at the Hotel Morgan in Risoul... I think it's the Morgan.

I would have thought Risoul would have been struggling for snow this year by April.

Go to Risoul, it is likely to have better snow than Le Corbier. I skied in Le Corbier last Tuesday and have also been there at Easter a few years ago. The link back from La Toussiure was closed due to lack of snow so only done by chair lift. Some old slow uplift and difficult to link parts of Toussiure. Links to St Sorlin were good and Les Sybelles is a large area. Snow at the moment was about what it was at Easter a few years ago but this has been a poor season. Raining at present here (in Meribel Les Allues) but should be snowing higher up.
