Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The top of Alpe d'Huez looked like that last week. I was impressed they got it open.

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Why would the cable car be left out in the open and exposed to the weather?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Where do you think they would put it, then? Cable cars are not detachable from the cable. If one is down the bottom, the other must be at the top. I believe they leave them a few metres out of the station so that the top one does not get frozen into the station.

Why would it matter? If it got frozen in the station then it should be easier to deice than being stuck out like this one. The Solaise CC in Val d'Isere stays in its stations..

This was the bottom station of the Pic Blanc cable car which runs up to the top of the glacier in Alpe d'Huez on Friday. I was impressed they'd got it running. Things were a tad chilly though.

 snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

Unusual for the Alps to have such heavy icing.
This is much more common in our damp climate. Presumably caused by high humidity when it was raining to high elevations and the freezing level was fluctuating wildly.
The recent cold conditions will have freeze dried the ice. Lots of potential for damage and injury when it is bashed off. There are no subtle ways to deal with it, other than perhaps wait for things to warm up.
