Fingers crossed, I'm going to Madeira with them in 10 days as they are the only flight from Brum. If they do go under then it will be more expensive from somewhere less convenient.

I might be misinterpreting this but I think it's Monarch Travel that's about to go to the wall not Monarch Airline and that the media is doing a good job of confusing people.
Monarch Airlines have definitely expressed a wish to focus it's attention on long haul operations so maybe a buyer (Wizz) might come along before long for its short haul operations.

@esaw1, yes you may be right. ATOL licence not needed for flight only operation, seemingly just for package holiday arm of the company.
Like many of you, I've flown with Monarch many times. Not cheapest but decent balance between cost and quality IMO. Hope they can keep going.

But one of the articles above says that loss of that part of the business will likely put the group into administration.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@Tubaski, my rough understanding is that usually the air tour operator (hence ATOL) bit of the business is the essential feeder for baseload flight business.
So if you lose the huge majority of your “owned” clients ... (I’m sure they sell charter flight only but it’s been a long time since I bought anything like that ).
I have no idea if the airline would be viable without the packaged holidays, but I could imagine it wasn’t.

I hope they pull through. I know quite a few people who work for them.

You know it makes sense.

A couple of years ago they cancelled only our outbound ski flight - about a month before departure, despite us having booked 7 or 8 months beforehand. No explanation given.
Cowboy airline in my book....

Last two flights of the day (to Ibiza) have been cancelled without explanation. Two Qatar A320s operating under British Airways callsigns have departed Stansted for Ibiza to bring back the passengers who would have been on the inbound flights. Only logical explanation must be that Monarch are no longer

Hate to say this but that refers to last year's Monarch crisis.

Now bust. Three Qatar (QR) at Lgw @3am and a further 5 at BHX to cover CAA rescue.
