As part of my illness i.e :sH: I have noticed that I consider roads, paths, hills very strangely.
Over the break my wife and I walked through Hampstead Heath and at times all I could pictutre when walking downhill on a path was it covered in snow, and how I would tackle it, where I might put in a turn etc
Driving down country roads I often do the same.
Am I mad?

Peter Leuzzi, We have a tendancy when passing through unfamiliar terrain to have conversations along the line of "That hill over there, that'd make an excellent blue/red don't you thnk....now if you ran a lift up to there..." etc etc Nice to know I'm not alone in my madness

No, Peter, having skied one of the back bowls of Hampstead Heath (up near Whitestone Pond) it's definitely one of those rare opportunities to seize (if you've a wreckable pair of skis!)
Current report for Hampstead Heath:
'Best hypothetical snow on upper slopes'

Walking near Brecon before Christmas, I was spying out some lines down from the top of Pen Y Fan, complete with a scary drop in. All we need is the snow, so it's sad, but not mad.

I work in a hospital which is at the top of a hill and I am forever thinking "that would make nice nursery slopes, that would make a nice easy red, etc"!!
Don't know about Hampstead Heath, however, never been - surprising!!

We live on top of a hill......a favourite passtime is working out how to make a cheap but safe tow!

I have skied several bits of Hampstead Heath over most of a lifetime, but chiefly Parliament Hill a couple of hundred yards from where I live. The steepest side (towards the Lido) they have unfortunately blocked off now (probably because people would shoot out accross a path screened on both sides, rather dangerously - though that was otherwise almost entirely people on sleds).
I remember skiing straight down to the road from there as a crocodile of schoolchildren shouted and pointed in amazement. (Most gratifying)
When I was much younger I even skied down the road of Holly Lodge estate which descends most of Highgate Hill, after the heaviest snowfall I can remember.
But yes, Peter Leuzzi, I too spot good ski slopes as I walk in Hills and mountains with my (non-skiing) wife. Usually I keep quiet now, since she has several times got fed up with this and rationed me to one mention of skiing per day!
A few times, as we walked with friends down a steeper slope of a Yorkshire moor I have been unable to resist running down at great risk to my ankles - weaving in imitation of ski turns to restrain my speed a little (You can tell I am, sadly, a very advanced case - I also have some ski videos which my wife refers to as my pornography.)

snowball, having previously lived nearby Clapham Common I moved away from there to get away from those types of jokes!!
Shades of the confessing MP sketch in Little Britain,
"...having been startled, I fell onto the said rastafarian gentleman and a part of my body inadvertently entered his. As far as I am concerned this matter is now over..."

Long journey to pembrokeshire at new year I realised that if I leant forward in my seat far enough so that my nose was pressed up to the windscreen it felt like I was skiing round the corners, down the hills and (an improvement of the real thing) uphills too. The bus pasengers were a little concerned but a few sharp mogul turns soon put them back in their seats...I jest, was alone and very bored! Don't worry I was safety conscious as I had my hard hat on.
Try it tonight on the way home, driving will never be the same again.

I must have an extra degree of madness.Sitting on my desk,I have a piste map of a hill not too far away from me Having walked it a number of times, there are a couple of rocks(and an old badger set)which would not be obvious under a bit of snow.Wouldn't want to wreck me 'fat boys' on them, would I?
I shall map another hill this summer.Main problem with this one is tree roots and stumps
One day it will it will snow.........and I will be ready

My parents in law live just outside brecon. I reckon global warming/gulf stream reversal plus an EU grant to raise the beacons by 1000 metres would result in a great ski area wih great local accomodation !
Brecon is further north than Whistler - why is there no snow !!!
