Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski wise, we had an english instricutor called David, worked for the International Ski School (rather than ESF), he was great. Can't help on Snowboards sorry.

nbt- my two children 15 &13 have had private lessons with David Hughes from the Ski Ecole International for the last 3/4 years. As you say he is a great chap and the kids love skiing with him. We often see him in the bar in the evening and he always makes a point of talking to them.

international ski school better the ESF.

There's an independent instructor based at one of the ski shops (snowski) called Yann Westercamp. He is used by the scgb and he's excellent. Might be wasted on the kids though - he's great for off-piste instruction and guiding.

I can heartily second pendodave's comment - Yann's excellent and great fun (and the ladies absolutely love him, as a 40-something Robert Redford look-alike, and he does some male modelling during the summer too Wink ). My week with him we were consistently finding untracked snow when the main bowl was completely tracked out. The main problem with trying to get him though is that he's booked pretty solidly by SCGB (you could check whether you're hitting one of his weeks by looking at the Ski Freshtracks program. If you want to join in with them though I think they're also doing course-only weeks this year - it will then depend if a) they have space and b) you're at the right level to join the class that week.

There is also a chap called Lynne Stainbrook (I can't remember if he is American or Canadian) who has instructed privately in Flaine for years. Details on the Flaine website. One of my friends has used him several times and gives a good report.
