Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Solden/Obergurgl

We've just come back from the Otztal valley over new year week and we were amazed by how good the snow was. It seems that both Solden and Obergurgl/Hochgurgl can make the most of artificial snow!.

Highlights; groomed pistes, efficient lifts, mostly non-existent queues, especially after new years eve when the mountains empty, busses to get to and from lifts and up the valley, Electric Mountain gig with Felix Jaehn (I'm nearly 50 and thought it was great), superb transfer time to Innsbruck (1hr 20) in a coach, James Bond 'Ice Q' restaurant, cheap food and drink on the mountain compared to France, excellent, truly excellent glacier skiing at the top.

Downsides; no new snow until we'd finished skiing, scratchy by mid afternoon, two sprained MCL's!!!

Oh well, eight weeks of rehab before my next trip!!!

if anyone needs any questions answering I'll do my best

I really liked Obergurgl, ideal early or late season destination, I think they opened on the 12th this season and are usually the first non glacial resort to open in Austria. One criticism was the piste marking was a little difficult to follow at times in glorious weather so I'd imagine it can be a bit disorientating if the weather rocks in. What were the new runs like over by top mountain cross point station? On balance I preferred the run on the Hochgurgl side however there's not a lot going in Hochgurgl Vs Oberburgl (which isn't exactly banging).

We had a day in Solden on the pass last season, and stayed there about 4 years ago.

Take it easy on the knees have you had the sprain diagnosed by a specialist-take it from someone who's missing their first season in 20 odd years due to a knee injury including a ruptured ACL.
