Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski hire in Tignes Val Claret. Book online or just visit shops.

I'm off to Val Claret next week and I want to hire some skis. Now I have hired skis for the last few years after I sold my own and in the past I have looked at the usual online sites
to obtain the discounts, but I think in every year I have hired, regardless of shop, they never seem to have to models of skis that they advertise. Some of our group are not bothered
by this and just look for the cheapest but I like to pick and research a particular model(s) of ski. I don't mind paying a decent price for decent skis so I am looking for recommendations
for a good ski hire shop that carries good stock.
The other question is if I just turn up without pre booking, would I be likely to get just as good discount as booking online as surely the shop would not have to pay any commission to
their partners such as Skiset etc.

To give you some idea, I seem to have a liking for Rossignol or Salomon skis.

I was looking for a decent ski shop in Val Claret back in the first week of Dec.
I was recommended Ski1 by 3 or 4 different people so I checked them out.

They have a decent, fairly varied range but most importantly they a really [even geekily] passionate about their ski servicing and boot fitting. They're also ski in/ski out, as they're situated right next to the bridge, just below the Tuffs lift.
So basically, they're a decent ski shop all round.

On top of all that though, present a Total-snowHead card
...it's something you can have if you're a super/mega-snowHead
and you'll get 30% off their hire and service charges on the spot, without the need for pre-booking anything.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We used Intersport, next to the main outdoor Val C car park, in December.

Booked online; 2 of us; mid-range skis (we're advanced skiers but decided to give them a whirl); 3 days' hire...A ridiculous €54 all in. They were fine - pretty decent skis in good nick.

The Mastercard statement has just come through - we got €1.42 to the £ - so the skis worked out at only £6-odd per pair per day Very Happy

I've used Skimium to get discounts in my local shop. I use it a lot and would happily pay them direct, but no go. And any items added on the spot didn't get the discount. Maybe they think I am a spy for Decathlon.
