The last week of Feb has always been my preferred week for skiing due to likelihood of good snow and my birthday falling at that time. Have not been able to go that week since kids reached school age sadly. It will be more expensive then due to French school holidays and possibly busy but pre children I was completely unaware of French school holiday dates and we always booked that week and had a good time.

Second week in March won't be busy.

@Rafared, late January probably the quietest time. If not look at beginning of Feb pre school hols. The second half of March can be excellent but there is a risk of milder weather so you need to pay more attention to the resort altitude then.

Second half of March 2016 is Easter, so could be crowded.

Mid to late January is good and then from the 2nd week of March. Mid February to first week of March are the French school holidays.

French French resorts aren't busy at Easter and its low season prices for accommodation. Friends just booked a piste side 2 bedroom apartment Weds to Weds for 450 euros. but the British French resorts might be busier and flight and TO prices are high. Late Jan or first week February would be good.

French half term is spread across pretty much the whole of Feb from Saturday 6th, also first week of March. Add at least the UK half term to that mid-Feb with 2 French zones in the middle 2 weeks and it's busy...

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Agree that last week of January likely to be quietest. The north western French Alps seem to be getting dumped on at the end of this week.

I'd wait and see where the rain/snow limit is going to be - not to mention the quantities before talking about "dumps"

12th to 19th March should be OK, it's after the French holidays and before the UK Easter Hols. No snow guarantee though
