The long-awaited blue run back to resort is due to open this year. Anyone been following the construction work? Anyone any insight into what this new run will be like? Apart from rammed at going home time! Easy blue? Hard blue?

@lampygirl, thanks for that. Was on hols when the original thread was started. Looks like a typical LDA "blouge" as Claude said on the thread.

No worries,

@Claude B, where does that new blue (blouge I think ) bring you down to?
|
|
|
|
|
|
@Montana, Down near the Jandri Express, think there may be a spur down to Diable too, not 100% though. The earthworks are massive, I walked over them one day and really struggled.

Thanks @Claude B, we will be based near the Diable in January (again) and although it's no hassle to download on the chair it'd be nice to ski down.

@Montana, Diable is my home lift for my new place.too In fact I restricted myself to looking for a place at that end.

We're back to LDA again in Feb after heading elsewhere the last few years, but back over at the Venosc end for us. So the new chair replacing the red eggs is our closest lift again. No great shakes to drop down from there.
Looking forward to getting back!!

@Claude B, thanks for that - looks like a nice run down - doesn't seem to be the spur off to Diable though. Still, looking forward to skiing it in January

@Montana, There's an existing run, left to right looking up the mountain towards the Diable end from Valentine which must cross this.

I've seen this a couple of times now and have mentally gone down the Jandri 5 to Jandri 2 sectors in my head. I can envisage where it drops off from the Cretes area now but to me, it does seem rather steep for a blue towards the end, seemingly backed up by the distance/descent graph. I know a run is graded according to its overall descent compared to distance but I do think this seems rather steep towards the bottom bit.
For resonable skiers/boarders who aren't up to black run standard and who want an alternative to Demoiselles/downloading, great, but I have a feeling some people could get caught out on this as it's probably a bit more difficult than a fair few of the other blue runs towards the end.
Just my opinion!

It will probably end up pretty bumpy each day too, but anything's better than that horrible green road.

The new piste map shows this now, definitely a spur down to Diable

Looking very nice. Doesn't look like the easiest blue run, mind. May get a bit "tasty" later on in the day and the world and her husband pile down it......

I was thinking that as I watched the video. A good portion of it seems to be almost straight down towards town - that could be pretty hairy in poor conditions

@pam w, I agree. Definitely looks like a "blouge" or a "reu" or whatever a reddish blue is. Should just station a few blood wagons at the top of the run...just in case

Popped to lift office to pick up season pass this morning, loads of work going on towards the bottom of the new blue, cannons running too.

As an aside:
I like "blouge" as a description of a run, although only really valid for France. I've always thought of these in-betweeny sort of runs as purple. And the steeper reds are burgundy. I'm not sure what that makes the tougher greens though... turqoiuse? (My preferred haunts in Austria don't have them so never really thought about it).
All these snowy pictures are making me inpatient. 5 weeks and 2 days still to wait.

@skiinghamster, you could have "blot" or "rau" in Austria but Google tells me that "rau" means "rough" - may be a good description.

Took a look at the new blue as I came down in the white eggs today. It's oficially closed but there were a fair few people skiing it, it looks nice. I think I'll find a way of getting onto it tomorrow. I think that's why it's closed, Crete is closed so getting onto it isn't simple.

First time in Les Deux Alpes. Which ski hire place would you recommend? Used a snowheads recommendation for Mayrhofen last season and got a great result!

@Shawsy, we used Jacques Sport last year and will again in January. Good service (no problem when my husband wanted to change his boots, or my brother his skis), good price although we booked through Snowbrainer, and a good location IF you are at the Venosc/Diable lift end of town, so if you can advise where you're staying, you might get a different recommendation

"blouge" love it! Some of the gradings in L2A are a little eccentric aren't they?

@Shawsy, Ski Extreme no question, easiest the best and friendliest hire place in town.
