We're driving to Chamonix on Boxing Day and the 27th (Sunday) and it looks like all the supermarkets will be closed. Does anyone know where's the best place to but cheap wine, beer and do the food shopping. I seem to remember that the wine in the super u in town was about 10 euros a bottle. I'm more of a 4 euro/bottle max when in France🍻🍻.

How carefully have you checked the supermarket opening hours ? Some large supermarkets are open on a Sunday morning or you may be near a convenient one on the Saturday.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'm pretty sure the Carrefour on the site of the old Garage Betty is open on a Sunday morning. beer and wine prices in there are fine, cheaper than the UK, dearer than down in the valley (but only a bit).
I'm getting in on Boxing Day myself but luckily I stocked up in Aug when one of the supermarkets in the valley had a special on, 440 bottles from memory. Beer not wine of course, I mean 440 bottles of wine, that would be gluttony.

@Jonesj, as you drive into Chamonix there is a petrol station on the right with a Carrefour supermarket behind it, reasonable selection wine and beer and not expensive. I don't know the Xmas opening but would be surprised if it was closed on Monday 27th. If you are really stuck the little supermarket in Cham sud is open every day probably even Xmas day, but cheap it isn't.

Cheers all. I've been checking the supermarkets around Troyes where I'm staying but they're closed all day and the ones at Bourg en Bresse I'll probably miss. I'll think I'll go to the Carrefour on the Monday rather than the smaller ones in town.
Cheers all.

The Intermarche in Domancy doesn't seem to be open on the 27th but the one in Gaillard is open all day, details here. Can't find anything for the Passy Super-U. The big Carrefour in Ferney Voltaire is open until 7pm on the 27th too.

@Jonesj, That's not the Super-U we shop in (and there's only one). Maybe low stocks on a boxing day though... But €4-5 is our usual budget.
As above ... we usually (unless we want something a bit more unusual as the Carrefour isn't the biggest) go to Carrefour. It's not as cheap as it used to be because (allegedly) a condition of the redevelopment was the insistence by the owner of Super-U (which is a co-operative as it happens) that the Carrefour couldn't discount named brands below his prices (or not much below anyway). That's the story I heard anyway.
There are a handful of Petit Casinos as well, one of which is eye-wateringly expensive (opposite the new Norrona, ex-Salomon shop) but is open longer hours.
