Spent the wet and windy afternoon watching the North American races on Eurosport, much more coverage on there.

You can get it 'live' online for 4.99 or 6.99pm

Buy a dish plus a cheap decoder and point it in the right direction. You also get to work on your German for when you go to Austria.

Some people would use an IP blocker (for example the Hola extension on Google Chrome) and a streaming website like livetv.sx
Such things are, I believe, illegal but extremely common. I have a friend () who regularly watches ice hockey games like this. Quality of the video can vary but for the most part you get decent access to the coverage.

Cheers @smagsmith, I've been watching the skiing on Eurosport but there's still something a bit magical about Ski Sunday

How slow? Ours is slow (by most peoples comparison at least) and i can stream eurosport live without too many problems.

@queen bodecia, phone them and ask for a written transcript of the race?

I...I mean, my friend, used to watch hockey games using a BT wi-fi hotspot. Not perfect, but a good enough connection to work so your connection would have to be pretty poor to not watch anything.

It's just stop start all the time, not watchable. When BT Infinity finally arrives in my area I'll be able to get Eurosport through BT TV, but no date for that yet. I don't want Sky and there's no Virgin Media.

I'm going to Wengen purely with the intention of photo bombing ski Sunday

You know it makes sense.

@queen bodecia, i dont have btinfinity either and wont be getting it for the foreseeable futuer. Question still begs answering, what actual speed do you get? It may be that other technical issues are stopping you watch online content other than your actual connection speed.

not just how many megabits your ISP claims you can have. also depends on how much your ISP tinkers with video services that aren't theirs.
I can run iplayer with my internet barely ticking over one day, but another, iplayer, youtube and vimeo either don't works at all or drop to 144p (I didn't even realise it went that low!). although tbf, vimeo never works properly.
and whilst the video streams not part of my ISPs TVoverIP subscription fail, my internet is more than capable of using the other 99% for downloading something big.
of course, europsport via BT will not suffer any throttling issues regardless of your contracted bitrate.
will watch c/o satellite, and flick V's at Telekom.

@smagsmith, its a pity it does not go back to its format a few years ago (think it was called "ski higher" and an hours duration) when there was a lot more segments with all other winter sports and things like celebrities learning to ski or racing against each other, although I suppose we have the jump for this now!!!
I will still be putting on a series record link when it is due to start, though I may have to delete a lot of the world cup skiing that I have recorded so far, have probably taken up about 20% of my BT box on eurosport programmes!!!!

Yeah High Altitude was great, loads of stuff about backcountry and profiles on pros. It was a good mix of skiing and snowboarding too. In a way that show was one of the things that helped me get into the sport.

@halfhand, @SnoodyMcFlude, maybe we should start a campaign to get auntie beeb to return to its other format, as much as I like watching the professional races I also like all the other forms of the sport

With the massive cut backs the beeb is facing I doubt they will invest more in a show they recently cut a lot of the budget from, that's why the format changed, budget cuts.

Hahaha indeed there is not! I miss the old format a lot but alas the Beeb would rather spend tons of money on Strictly and Eastenders.

@Minion1980, to be fair I don't mind strictly, whats not to like with Claudia and several stunning ladies dancing around. but I could do without eastenders!!!!

Maybe if they'd spent a bit less on Clarkson and his puppets exploding crap! You could probably make a season of High Altitude for the same price as an episode of TG.

@SnoodyMcFlude, like it or loathe it TG mad a shed load of money from overseas sales for auntie (and Clarkson et al), not sure you can say the same for the likes of eastenders, citizen khan, mrs brown boys, some Scottish sitcom late at night that am not even sure of its name, just typical BBC box ticking
don't know why another free to air channel does not take the format on board, am sure there would be advertising stream from tour operators/clothing etc. channel 4 flirted with this in the late 80's/90's (not sure exactly when), I think the presenter was Miriam grey???
after all the winter season isn't only 6 weeks long, that's all we get now with ski sunday.

Still Game! Top quality that is
TBF the Beeb do, in general, do produce a wide range of top quality programmes. THat said, and I do appreciate your point about the commercial viability of TG, would it really have made a huge dent in the budget of Top Gear if the had to cut back a tiny bit to make way for money to other programming? They had some pretty elaborate stuff going on by the end of run.

@SnoodyMcFlude, it wasn't "still game" just did a google search the sitcom is called "mountain goats". am sure there is an audience for it somewhere as it is on to series 2. but this is just a selection of the dross (IMO) that they throw out.
you make a fair point about top gear budget, but I am sure most people tuned in for the antics rather than a review of various top end super cars costing from £100k upwards, not really in most peoples price range!!!!

they did cut back TG, after the Reliant Robin space shuttle series, which is why the later versions did less stuff like that. Given that it has 50 million worldwide sales it doesn't seem like an appropriate target. Of course Ginge's salary is taking most of the budget in the new TG.

But those sales began when it had a smaller budget and would still have continued if they cut back a bit. Did they really need to build a Ford Transit hovercraft? Would viewing figures be any less if they'd saved that money and done something less elaborate.
The supercar stuff is likely to be what cost them least, most of the time stuff like that is put on by the manufacturers
