Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just a gentle warning/reminder, since holiday time is fast approaching and lift systems are opening more and more - there is very little (or no) base off piste (where it is actually skiable) in most parts of the French Alps (and beyond) currently so take it easy out there...
Today in Val Thorens:

(26 yr old in hospital with head injuries after colliding with a rock off piste)
1 dead and 1 seriously injured in 2 separate incidents in the Pyrenees over the weekend (one cliff fall as I understand things).
Obviously
A snowHead
isn't a real person

@offpisteskiing
, a timely warning. A few years back my house mate broke her back in just such conditions, she fully recovered but only after six weeks in plaster.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Were they wearing a helmet?
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Another 2 dead in the Pyrenees, due to falling on icy snow which is a particular problem in both the Pyrenees and Alps on North sector slopes at the moment. A friend of mine injured herself badly at Alpe d'Huez on opening day falling on ice on piste.
In the Pyrenees incident you refer to it seems the skier fell for some undetermined reason but the conditions were "spring like". Maybe hitting a rock or maybe blowing a turn on difficult snow?
In the Alps a very good local skier died after a fall on the Grand Pic de la Lauziere on Sunday. Apparently difficult conditions which should maybe have persuaded the group to make a U turn or take a different route.
